Nothing for or against Dunkin', but shouldn't we start with RFK Jr. proving *he* is safe first?

Independence of spectral contrast effects across different frequency regions in speech perception Identification of speech sounds is influenced by spectral contrast effects (SCEs), the perceptual magnification of spectral differences between successive sound

Where does that leave us? SCEs are consistent within-frequency but not across frequencies. This paints a more holistic picture of perception-in-context. The link to the article is below, and thanks for reading!

As expected, SCEs affected listeners’ categorization of lower-, middle-, and higher-frequency speech sound contrasts. But, the effects were not at all consistent with each other (in two different listener samples, or when pooling samples). Nothing happening here.

🚨New publication alert!🚨
@matthewwinn.bsky.social and I asked – with so many reports of spectral contrast effects (SCEs) in the speech perception literature, are these effects related to each other? We tested whether SCE magnitudes in different frequency regions were consistent with each other.

Oh, FIFA is corrupt and extortionate?
The more things change, the more they stay the same. This video was from 4 world cups ago (2014) and it could've been made today!

If you've been asleep all year, you can sum up 2025 pretty well by just looking at the word of the year choices:
6-7 (dictionary.com)
rage bait (Oxford)
parasocial (Cambridge)
vibe coding (Collins)

We already knew that FIFA was corrupt (Blatter era), and then it became super corrupt (Russia / Qatar / Saudi Arabia WC bids), so now it has achieved being super-duper corrupt

07.11.2025 16:31 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

We're in Year 2 of seeing the big teams advance regularly, as more games = more margin for error. After a 2nd bad result in the old group phase, there'd be reason for concern. Now, you can have 3? more? bad results and still get through via playoff round (which ought to the 1x-leg for more jeopardy)
