Everyone has to come out of it eventually
Okay, but how did they miss the opportunity to call this the John Waters Closet?
White hairs are starting to sprout in my beard and sideburns, perhaps not coincidentally as I'm in the back stretch of my dissertation. This is how so many academics develop the "distinguished" look.
Buying the dip on ol’ Tim Chalamet. Still think the Oscar is his, and if not, he’ll just keep grinding.
Happy women’s day
Why are you all complaining about losing an hour? Are you all getting up for church? It's Sunday, sleep in.
Okay, yeah, totally revising my earlier lukewarm opinion. This movie is excellent.
Rewatching THE SECRET AGENT under much better viewing conditions and definitely vibing with it more this time.
It strikes me on this rewatch that Rafiki is extremely Yoda-coded, down to doing a kooky old man routine when he meets Simba.
I feel like kid’s films are afraid to be as clever as this one now. There are characters with deep vocabularies doing some pretty sophisticated wordplay, but the film (rightly) assumes the kids can keep up with the big emotional beats and the broader jokes.
In hindsight, it’s my head canon now that Scar only kills Mufasa because he’s worried about him marrying Simba to preserve his estate,
I didn’t know it at the time, but Simba was the first depiction of a failson I ever encountered in media.
Showing my baby girl her dad’s first favorite movie, THE LION KING, and feeling big feelings about it. I still know it so well, and it’s still so wonderful, and she’s so locked into it. They weren’t joking about that Circle of Life stuff.
Repertory series on the 80s films of Jean-Luc Godard called Project HAIL MARY
Literally pumped my fist at the cliffhanger of tonight’s PITT.
Do it, Leo. Hit the big, red "excommunication" button. I know you want to.
Test driving a new euphemism for my own physique
My daughter just got her first pair of real shoes from a store that specializes in wide baby shoes. The people at the store said they were the smallest, widest feet they’d ever seen. That’s my baby girl.
It’s very weird to release a feminist reimagining of THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN like two years after POOR THINGS and while another FRANKENSTEIN is competing for Oscars. Feels extremely superfluous.
Can't wait to hear everyone talk about F8 OF THE FURIOUS
I became very fond of Reaper because of its very easy pogo and its excellent dash attack.
The one that’s the most like Hollow Knight, which makes a lot of sense
Silksong players, I'm very curious what people use as their go-to crest. I've defaulted to Reaper at this point.
Good episode!
Fucking come at me, man. I will throw hands over Australian dogs animated for babies
I don’t know if this is a hot take that’s going to set off heated discourse, but I don’t care. I’ve gotta say it: Bingo > Bluey
On a business end, I find two legacy studios committed to theatrical distribution merging slightly less awful than a tech company swallowing a 100 year old studio. But on the level of personal ownership, Ellison is so much more odious than the Netflix people.
Paramount vs. Netflix was always a no-win proposition, but it’s still dispiriting to see Ellison strong-arm his way into owning half of Hollywood.
I have never seen a SCREAM film not directed by Wes Craven and I don't anticipate that will ever change.
JACKASS FOREVER was wonderful and would have served as a fine send-off, but the production was also severely compromised by COVID. I hope this gives the crew the massive finale they deserve.
