Boulder County’s LGBTQ+ community worries over pending SCOTUS decisions Members of Boulder County’s LGBTQ+ community await the rulings from the U.S. Supreme Court on multiple cases that could impact their rights and safety.

“Maybe someone on the court will have some humanity, we keep hoping,” said Mardi Moore, CEO of RMEQ. “Is there enough humanity down deep inside and enough understanding of biology and genetics and trust in that left that they’ll vote against Chiles v. Salazar?”

Bill McCartney statue installed at CU Boulder, drawing protests from LGBTQ+ advocates McCartney was both a record-setting coach and an advocate for policy that stripped legal protections for LGBTQ+ people. His statue went up this month.

“We’re here not to protest, so much as to mourn,” said Mark Lester, a policy analyst for RMEQ. We’re deeply disappointed in CU Boulder Athletics and just the fact that they’re choosing to commemorate someone who actively fought against our rights.”

Marriage License and Civil Unions Name Changes: Allows people to get a new marriage license and civil union license after a name change with no indication that a change occurred and retains the original effective date.

School Chosen Name and Dress Code Policies: If schools or staff enact chosen name policies, they must be inclusive of all reasons a student might adopt a name different from their legal one. Students must be allowed to choose freely from any of the dress code clothing options provided.

Good news! After a vote late last night, the Kelly Loving Act (HB25-1312) is on its way to the governor’s desk for signature. This is the last step before the bill becomes law. This bill is an example of people-powered legislation that centers community voices.
