🧑🔬 Behind every preserved specimen there is technical knowledge, patience, and skilled craftsmanship that make scientific collections a key long-term research tool.
📦 Once dry, the specimen is protected against potential pests and becomes part of the bird collection, where it is catalogued and made available for future research on biodiversity, environmental change, or evolution.
🧵 The skin is then mounted on a custom-made mannequin built with wire, wood shavings, and cotton, reproducing the original volume of the animal. The extremities are also prepared to prevent residual fat from damaging the skin over time.
🧼 After the specimen arrives from a wildlife recovery center, meticulous work begins: the skin is cleaned, scraped, and treated with a tanning agent to ensure its long-term preservation. Each step is performed carefully to preserve as much biological information as possible.

🧑🔬 Detrás de cada ejemplar conservado hay conocimiento técnico, paciencia y un trabajo artesanal que convierte a las colecciones en una herramienta científica clave a largo plazo.
📦 Una vez seco, el ejemplar se protege frente a posibles plagas y pasa a formar parte de la colección de aves, donde queda clasificado y disponible para futuras investigaciones sobre biodiversidad, cambio ambiental o evolución.
🧵 Después, la piel se monta sobre un maniquí hecho a medida con alambre, viruta y algodón, que reproduce el volumen original del animal. Las extremidades también se preparan para evitar que los restos de grasa deterioren la piel con el paso del tiempo.
🧼 Tras la recepción del ejemplar procedente de un centro de recuperación, comienza un trabajo minucioso: la piel se limpia, se raspa y se trata con un curtiente para asegurar su conservación. Cada paso se realiza con cuidado para preservar la mayor cantidad posible de información biológica.
