Stoked to present my master's thesis work to the public for the first time today at UND's Graduate Research Achievement Day. TLDR: storm interactions are important, and we may be starting to understand why. Those going to the Iowa Severe Storms Conference will get to hear more!

A Skew-T diagram and hodograph, with data tables below.
We launched our first yesterday, and three more today - for practice and to make sure we can get our data into the global communications networks for forecasters to be able to use **worldwide.**
For the weather nerds: data from our "third-ever" launch (18Z today) below. Very cold atmosphere today!

The official debut of my research group was tonight at #AMS2026!
Sooooooo proud of Sydney, Kyle, and Payton, as well as our other students repping North Dakota this week.
Stay tuned for much more from my Northern Plains Sickos at the Tropical Conference in March ๐

@nws.noaa.gov Director Ken Graham presented on NOAAโs modeling grand challenge at #AMS2026 this morning. He announced that the NWS is moving to MPAS as its modeling dynamical core, with his #1 moonshot goal being a global, fully coupled 3-km Earth prediction system using MPAS.

That's a wrap for me at #AMS2026 -- here's the work we presented last night at the student poster session: Can we increase predictability of TC-tor events *prior* to landfall via airborne observations? Here's the poster. It was a pleasure to see everyone! Keep in touch!

Biggest take away from #AMS2026 so far: everything happens for a reason. The opportunities, hardships, relationships, etc. Its all for a reason, and that reason is growth.

See you soon, #AMS2026!
Come by the Early Career Conference Sunday-Monday, check out my students' posters, then stick around long enough to heckle me when it's my turn to present.

Who all is going to AMS? I'll be co-presenting some ground-work for "Convective Environments Preceding Landfall in Tornadic Tropical Cyclones: An Analysis of Airborne Observations" during the Sunday 7-9pm poster session. See ya there!

Here it is. The last 10 years of hail events across the U.S. using my prototype hail tracking algorithm!
Hoping to build out a more robust climatology of hailstorms like we have for tornadoes.

Super excited to now have a copy @shawnmilrad.bsky.social's brand new edition of "Synoptic Analysis and Forecasting, An Introductory Toolkit" textbook featuring TONS of SounderPy soundings!
This is a great intro to synoptic meteorology and forecasting! Thanks for sending it, Shawn!

Beyond severe convective weather today, severe fire weather will exist on the high-plains of New Mexico & west Texas tomorrow PM. Extreme fire-behavior is possible given such extremely dry low-levels and strong surface winds. #NMwx #TXwx
