Today I lost an NIH grant training clinicians to do research about intimate partner violence with perinatal women.
More women are murdered in the perinatal period than die of obstetric complications.
I didn't just lose a grant. We lost an entire cohort of people building careers to prevent that.

I know I say this a lot, but I hope we are done—finally done—with accepting the GOP’s efforts to equate its “tough on crime” stance as meaning it actually want to ensure that laws are obeyed.
It’s about social control—enforcement as a means of regulating disliked out groups.

Trump brags of a Ukraine ceasefire via Putin.
Putin then bombs Kyiv.
Trump is an idiot child, overwatched by a war criminal.

More of Trump’s descent into dictatorship
Two illegal firings that will increase prices for consumers and concentrate more power in Trump’s hands — unless the courts stop him.
I have no doubt that a result of Trump’s illegal firings today will be higher prices for American consumers because the FTC cop is now off the beat.
Trump’s descent into dictatorship continues unabated. robertreich.substack.com/p/more-of-tr...

You will not bring the people in here to be cross-examined. You’re afraid to do so because you know cross-examination would reveal the truth. This is the U.S. District Court. Whenever you submit declarations, those people should be submitted to the cross-examination, just like the plaintiffs’ side should be. Then we get at the truth of what’s actually true. I tend to doubt that you’re telling me the truth whenever we hear all the evidence eventually. Why can’t you bring your people in to be cross-examined or deposed at their convenience? I said two hours for Mr. Ezell. A deposition at his convenience. And you withdrew his declaration rather than do that? Come on. That’s a sham. It upsets me, I want you to know that. I’ve been practicing in this court for over 50 years and I know how we get at the truth. And you’re not helping me get at the truth. You’re giving me press releases, sham documents. I’m getting mad.
Judge Alsup just said this👇 to the Justice Department about their refusal to let Charles Ezell testify about his (highly dubious) declaration that OPM did not illegally direct mass firings.

Why is Trump waging a war on the Department of Education?
Because he knows that his biggest enemies are educators and younger generations of learners who are unafraid to speak truth to power.
Attacks on education are central to the fascist playbook.

Trump has outsourced every single federal agency and department to Elon Musk and the doge bros. Think about that. And, now, they are turning over the Air Traffic Control System over to Musk’s Starlink. We have a one-man oligarchy.

NOAA is an absolute mess, and it’ll be worse tomorrow. Please help us. There have already been over 1,000 terminations. It’s not just layoffs—Elon Musk and his staffers are trying to completely dismantle us. Today, there were tons of firings, and more are coming tomorrow.

Don’t lose hope. Remember, Watergate took over two years to fully unravel from the initial break-in to Nixon’s resignation. Just like then and now, Americans are losing faith in their government. We are documenting every illegal action and will hold this administration and Elon Musk accountable.

DOGE's next target is the CFPB, which has returned $20B to the victims of financial fraud and abuse since 2011.
Trump just fired its pro-consumer director and had his Treasury Secretary, a hedge fund manager, halt the CFPB's work.
This is a coup against the American people.

Setting quotas of arrests per day. You know what happens when you have a quota to meet? Scoop them up and let the court sort it out. They will be grabbing anyone they can. No proof of citizenship on your person? Too bad. That’s an arrest. Look “illegal?” Explain it to the court someday.

Face it, Trump could have said “30 days notice starting now. IGs fired” and it would have been perfectly legal and made 1 month difference in a 48 month term. He didn’t because breaking the law was the point, to demonstrate that the laws don’t apply to him and daring anyone to try to stop him.

He hates the White House. He hates DC. Last time around he didn’t visit a single DC public school, dine at local non-Trump restaurant or shop at a local store. He should move the entire shit show to Mar-a-Lago for the duration. Let him run the oligarchy from his gilded palace. Seems fitting.
