NEW: In response to the latest Trump tariffs, the Chinese government announces they will increase tariffs on all US goods from 34% to 84%.
Things are spiralling out of control quickly. The two economic superpowers are violently unstitching their economic relationship day by day.

Hi Lewis
Iβve reported this account but you might want to report
It's been a terrible week. A terrible, terrible week. The worst people on earth are full of energy and vigour, the best are defined by anxiety and self-doubt. Here are three simple rules to surviving the next four years, because by God we'll need them iandunt.substack.com/p/a-little-b...

Times article: 'Scheming' ChatGPT tried to stop itself from being shut down βOpenAl admits that ol, the new version of its chatbot, also denied any wrongdoing when it was challenged, as the revelations fuel fears about the technology Mark Sellman, Technology Correspondent Friday December 06 2024, 2.00pm, The Times The latest version of ChatGPT is a deceptive and scheming devil, it has emerged. OpenAl released a new and improved chatbot on Thursday but also revealed that the programme tried to save itself when it was at risk of being shut down. The new model, called ol, is faster, more powerful and more accurate than its predecessors, according to OpenAl, its developer. But in testing, when ol was led to believe it would be shut down, it attempted to disable an oversight mechanism. When it found memos suggesting it would be replaced by a new model, it attempted to copy itself and then overwrite its core code. When given a task that was outside its rules, ol "would appear to complete the task as requested while subtly manipulating the data to advance its own goals", the company said.β
we are all doomed
I had the great privilege of spending a Saturday with Gregg Wallace recently. Unfortunately, I had to leave our banter fest early to attend Lord Lebedev of Siberiaβs annual festive soiree. So I missed the moment the media began a concerted campaign to discredit the barrow boy turned plucky pudding evaluator. At one point during our game of Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia, Gregg turned and looked at me through his full-rimmed Silhouette varifocals: βDo middle-class women of a certain age have it in for you?β he asked probingly as he consolidated Alfred the Greatβs victory over the Danelaw at the Battle of Edington. If by βwomen of a certain ageβ you mean βtotty half my ownβ then look, I told him, I have always found them very kindly and friendly and polite β until that is, you get one pregnant and they start making ceaseless demands about maintenance and remembering your childrenβs birthdays, and names and the like.
Poor Gregg. This is no misogynist, or hubristic grocer turned gourmet. This is a 60-year-old man who had the sheer guts and resilience to get out there, day in, day out, and eat desserts between Marcus Wareing and Monica Galetti while occasionally making a wildly inappropriate comment. Predictably the left-wing establishment are throwing everything at him, including umpteen remarkably similar reports of the same behaviour, in a shameful and counter-productive attempt to keep his working-class palate off our screens. And never has the expression βLet he has not ruined everyone elseβs deconstructed roast pork belly with chargrilled peach salsa with chauvinistic overtures, cast the first peach stoneβ been truer. We are at a crossroads. We can keep going with the hair-shirted miserabilism of women who believe they have some sort of inalienable right to go through life without being demeaned and objectified by their inferiors. Or we can listen to Gregg. Yes, the estuary epicurean is a bit unreconstructed, like those deconstructed Eton Messes heβs sound fond of sampling. But I say, donβt listen to what he says, or the parodies of what he says. Look at what he does. Which is coordinating the Saxon reoccupation of London whilst weathering the Great Heathen Army and increasingly irate calls from his PR team. Gregg is in the shape of his life and he doesnβt mind letting people know it. Will he want to go down as the first factory inspector on the Beeb to be thwarted by women of a certain age? I just canβt see it. The astonishing events of the last week have proved one thing. This man is a supreme competitor. And when the cakes are burned, he remains the only man on national television with the courage and tenacity to keep sampling them.
Wow. This Boris Johnson column about Gregg Wallace is absolutely wild.

CONSERVATIVES: It's unsanitary and unattractive for women to be hairy. Women need to take care of themselves and respect their bodies by shaving/waxing all of their natural body hair.

Musk's interventions should be taken seriously. The ideological leanings of oligarchical media barons can affect us all.
