I get that. He has said he really enjoyed pitching in Detroit to people in his circle. I just don’t think they will give him the contract he’s likely looking for as a rep for the MLBPA.

Personally, I don’t think either happens, but it’s an understandable reason.

I understand the nostalgia factor. I do think Scherzer or Boyd are better fits than he would be though.

I understand it from a nostalgia standpoint…but not for any other reason 😂

I think of former Tigers, Scherzer or Boyd are more likely than JV is.

As you can see, Justin Verlander is not among my Top 3. He’s not even on my list.

He is turning 42 in February, and just posted a 5.48 ERA.

If I had to rank the Top 3 FA starting pitching fits for the Tigers in 2025 based on fit (reclamation/fixer uppers), and likelihood (1 year deal with potential to earn a larger contract), I believe it would go like this:

1. Frankie Montas
2. Walker Buehler
3. Shane Bieber

I think both of these would be good moves
