They've either allowed the use of their bases, or spoken in favour of the intervention, or cast it in traditional military terms. This approach encourages further recklessness. Going softly on Trump doesn't work. Only international ostracisation has any chance of success. Sanchez gets it.

Was great to take part in this and I agree with many of the other contributors.
If all scooters on our roads were compliant with regulations, a huge amount of the existing problems would surely decrease. Speed is generally central to accidents.
Targeting the sale of non-compliant scooters is key

What a wildly stupid idea.
Mandatory helmets and high viz is a proven remedy to reduce the number of people cycling. It effectively kills off things like Dublin Bikes.
That's why no other EU country does anything like this. Pure madness.

Stop EU trade with criminals
For my followers in the EU, there is an European citizens’ initiative you can sign to demand the full suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement.
If you are for BDS this would be a huge step up.

Curious to see how Dublin Bikes respond to all of this? I can see helmets attached to all bikes potentially (risking giving everyone nits, but I've seen it done abroad). But the idea that all casual users will be carrying reflective gear with them doesn't seem in any way realistic

This is really relevant when discussing depression. It's not just prolonged sadness or irritation even though that can be a big part of it. Anhedonia/loss of "positive affect" is also very significant. (For researchers & clinicians, Michelle Craske's work on this is worth keeping an eye on)

Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians on Irish road behaviour: ‘I have had multiple near misses’
Motoring standards at ‘all-time low’ as cyclists are accused of ‘ignoring red traffic lights’
Amongst the negativity, can we give a shout out to Dublin Bus drivers navigating roads in town. There's lots of careless behaviour that could easily become accidents if it weren't for bus drivers' care & concentration on the roads

And while we're at it, Dublin GAA being sponsored by aparthotels during a housing crisis is so tone deaf, especially given the number of fans who are based on the inner city.

It's disappointing to see the GAA protect its sponsors ahead of its members, but not surprising:
- stuck with AIB during the tracker mortgage scandal
- shameless hurling sponsorship with Etihad in the past
It's not at AFL levels of shamelessness, but we should interrogate GAA sponsorship more

'We cannot be carrying out acts of self-harm because people think that Allianz plc is directly involved. They are not'
GAA President Jarlath Burns defends the Association’s decision to continue its partnership with Allianz.
I get that legally he's not wrong but morally it's such a weak point. Suggesting Allianz Ireland has nothing to do with Allianz globally, because of a lack of financial ties, is nonsense. It's still the same brand.
Surely the GAA could find a sponsor not complicit in Gaza?

Four months after it was promised, we finally have the government's transport investment plan between now and 2030. It's bad. Roads are in, public transport is out. A lot of public transport projects being put on the long-finger to make funding available for new roads.

The more asylum seekers there are, the more pressure there is on the asylum seeking system, not the general housing system.
FF and FG know exactly what they're doing here by conflating asylum seeking with housing, which they have mismanaged. Appalling #tonightvmtv

Micheál Martin says house building in Ireland is hampered by 'gold-plating' of EU rules
Taoiseach says 'going beyond what is required' is slowing down delivery of housing and other big projects in Ireland
The so-called "red tape" that needs cutting is Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael's chaotic housing policies that created and then compounded the housing crisis.
Zero point trying to blame anything or anyone else, or trying to pretend that the financialisation of housing isn't a core ideological failure.

How the story of the Presidential Election has been reworded
Another good piece of writing from @benfraser.bsky.social on how the story of #Aras25 has shifted to focus not on a left-wing victory, but on right-wing grievances.

I never want to hear that young people don't vote after this election, repeal, and marriage equality. For the referendums people spent thousands of euro to get home to vote and that still hasn't been reformed + they are totally underrepresented in every other election #aras25 #áras25

Also consistent with youth vote discourse. If young people don't vote, it's seen as their fault. But if conservative voters don't vote/spoil, it's seen as a system failure.
Low turnout = people voting with their feet due to poor representation, regardless of where they stand #aras25 #áras25

Also great to see that despite the low turnout, Connolly still got the most amount of first preference votes ever in an Irish presidential election (over 900,000). Huge echoes of the repeal referendum, let's hope the momentum can keep up for the next election #aras25 #áras25

For all the talk of the spoil the vote campaign as a conservative coalition, it's worth noting the Burkes released several videos to encourage people to vote for Humphreys, and that they heavily criticised Ganley and Steen. They weren't as unified as the left were for Connolly #aras25 #áras25
