“She and Max Martin and Shellback go 12 for 12 — they basically made a 41-minute New Romantics: The Album.”
The lyrics on this album are simple, but not shallow. Fewer adjectives, more straightforward syntax. But truly no one has ever matched Taylor for her cadence and rhythm. What syllables and phrases she emphasizes, where she breathes.
If you are looking at this album as anything other than a big satirical joke, then I get why it’s getting so much hate. On the surface, these lyrics are just basic and lazy af. For anyone not taking in the “performance art” of it all, I totally understand why it’s giving “flop”.
