I'm demonstrating how easy it is to refute the false dichotomy those deploying the problem are usually seeking to create.
Or what if your analysis is: the Ds are about 80% as bad as the Rs and the Rs are fucking mental. I believe the best way to get the Ds to be only 50% as bad as the Rs is to withhold my vote so they know it must be earned.

Using your example: what if you don't vote AND are highly active during those other 1460 days?
Is that morally superior to voting and being inactive the rest of the term?
Perhaps not literally (I dunno, maybe they are?) but the utilitarianism that is almost always the takeaway lesson when the TP is taught or deployed is the common justification for the harm caused while "avoiding greater harm".
That's the framing of ICE raids, right?
This is such a great tool for teaching power. Nearly everyone knows the TP and the feeling of being made to wrestle with it, often as children. And we ALL have to face horrible choices as adults.
What we're never allowed to do is question the situation itself. That's called having a tantrum.
"You/we *must* do one of these two horrible things and if you choose the one I don't like you're a child/monster" has been the constant and increasingly hysterical political framing of the last few decades.
As you say, people are tired.

He's questioning the premise and wondering at the overeliance on this thought experiment.
There isn't a denial there of the occasional need to make difficult or even impossible choices either.
I have lots of thoughts on this, but first off: saying people who question the premise of the scenario "shouldn't be allowed to participate in public discourse" looks like the real tantrum here I'm afraid.

The system is going to self correct soon I think, and this period will be pretty thoroughly memory holed by those in/with power.
As we've learned in the UK, though, a sizeable chunk of the public have functioning eyes, ears and memories and so the memory-holing is likely to backfire badly

I saw the preview of The Trials @trontheatre.bsky.social last night. It’s superb. Yeah I agree with this. I think marginally better might have won the election though.
Corbyn got 40% of the vote to May's 42%.
Many of us have memory holed this.
I also think absolute hellfire would have been unleashed and that the government would not have survived very long.
