Iβm thrilled to be curating an exhibition for this brilliant event. Lots of brilliant artists all brought together to celebrate the mighty Fall.

Yes, one of my amazing discoveries ;-)
Incorrect, MES did not say this. The correct quote is: "It's like Middlesbrough."
Derek Ridgers.

#thefall summarised, not entirely accurately, by Jackie magazine, 7 June 1986, p4. From a page on "indie bands" titled "Never 'Eard of 'Em?" Also covered: Chakk, Half Man Half Biscuit, Hipsway, Laurie Anderson, The Shop Assistants, The Cramps, New Order and... Balaam And The Angel.
Interview with Brix Smith from Jackie magazine, 29 July 1989, p.46
I'm here, though.
The story is reasonably well known. I don't think it's him either, but there's nothing definitive. Would need dates to check against known movements :-)
Yes: recorded 9 November 1977, released 11 August 1978.
Printout. Large buttons saying The Durutti Column. Hopper. The Sixths.
A factory sample too
Mark E Smith gets upset Kim Philby killed 2 of his friends
Hey Factory completists, have you got Fac2.07? Printout of the Factory Too website. 1994 maybe. Mark E Smith is unhappy with Kim Philby.
See the archived Annotated Fall: web.archive.org/web/20240614.... Eventually I will get around to it on my rebuild: annotatedfall.thebiggestlibraryyet.org.uk/tempo-house/
"We" don't know (I'm sure someone does) what Tempo House represented. A Tempo House has been identified, but whether it's the right one is unknown. "Grouse" has generally been interpreted to mean "complain", and this is the first time I've seen "Famous Grouse" mentioned - worth noting!
Just noticed: should say p.44,not p.40!
"How I Wrote 'Elastic Man'" reviewed in Zigzag magazine, #105, September 1980. p.40 #thefall.
Another great read from the amazing pen, memory and attic of @learnandsing www.paulmcdermott.ie/blog/the-fall
Inspiral Carpets, not the Charlatans! And he didn't sing through a megaphone. Here it is on youtube: youtu.be/pIHZ_rilmzE?...
Scanned this neg at the weekend - just in time for Week N for Noise. The sadly very much not immortal Mark E Smith, taken with a Yashica Electro at The Fall gig at Balne Lane WMC, Wakefield, May 21 2010. I have the setlist too - also pictured.

I don't see what is Smith-like about this. It's more Half Man Half Biscuit territory.
In 1980, with IPC titles NME & Melody Maker on strike, publisher Felix Dennis launched the short-lived New Music News. #2, dated 17 May, has a review of #thefall's live album "Totale's Turns" by friend-of-the-group Claude Bessy @steve69.bsky.social @fallnews.bsky.social @thefallthings.bsky.social
That's looking up Little Peter Street towards the former Gaythorn Gas Works. So not Salford, surely.
1978. The Fall hit the road...
#thefall "2 x 4": "Used table leg to club son-in-law" lyric. Another example of MES use of newspaper headlines. I found this in Manchester Evening News, 20 Aug 1983 p29. Song's live debut was Nottingham 27 Sept 1983. Source: www.newspapers.com/article/manc...
I tracked down the Tong interview back in August 2019:
