#Cargobike riding, mom of 4, living in the #carcentric suburbs of Edmonton using #activetransportation and #publictransit while avoiding being hit by drivers. Even in winter. Also a lawyer, but don't hold that against me.

I'm so annoyed by everyone saying the roads aren't passable for drivers. My Mazda3 is getting anywhere I need to go. It's just my bike that can't
Active transportation users are essentially locked out of everything north of that bridge right now. The only other detour would be Ellerslie to 91st and that's a lot of extra km, and a lot of extra windrows to get through.
Agreed. That's what made me turn around. Ill take the lane lots of times, but not when it's as icy as it is, and drivers are as frustrated as they are right now.
And that hill is not accessible in these conditions.
Yep. I've been impressed with the contractors snow clearing so far, and I don't think this is their fault, beyond the design of the detour. They did clear it. But city clearing on 111 is dumping snow back into the already cleared detour and/or creating windrows you can't get over/through.
Oulu is an inspiration for winter cities everywhere.
Cleared β usable
Roads were drivable.
Walking and biking routes werenβt passable.
The issue wasnβt clearing β it was coordination.
Cleared paths were made unusable by road clearing.
Everyone, including the 25% of Edmontonians who don't drive, deserve to be able to get around.
My sister was with me on her bike. She did not have as much fun as me
Christmas Eve. Fresh snow.
Cargo trike.
I donβt bike in winter because Iβm tough.
I bike because it's the most fun you can have.

Awwww that's amazing π
Screenshot that includes a picture. The picture is of a toddler reading a Batman book, sitting on the floor. There are dinosaur toys in the background. Text above the image reads Sir Squawk: I love this book Teacher: is Batman your favorite superhero? Sir Squawk: No Teacher: Then who is your favorite superhero? Sir Squawk: My Dad is

I guess Christmas came early for DaddyPedals.

Thank you! And honestly, it's because my snow pants material is slippery I have to fight to stay on the bike seat π . So it has to be cold enough to make that fight worth it.
Very lucky! I do get to WFH some days, so not always full corporate, but in office it's pretty strict.
Pretty similar to what I wear when I bike to work in the winter except luckily my office dress code is relaxed enough that my base layer is good enough for work.
Yes, exactly!
Hahaha love it!!!!! And puffy jackets should be everywhere π
Thank you!
This is a great demo! Just add a layer! #WinterBike
Thank you!
Agreed!!!!
Yes! Always a work in progress, and I find is changes as I get used to cold temps. What I wear at -10C in October is very different than what I wear at -10 C in March π
Base: Long padded bike tights, thin poly top, thick wool socks Mid: Muck Arctic Sport boots, fleece lined pants, 1/4 zip fleece Top: fleece -lined vest, light puffy jacket, rag wool mittens, ski helmet/googles.
Poagies on a fatbikeβs handlebars to keep hands warm.
Hi from Alaska, Sarah! Hereβs my system for those same temps, very similar to your clothes. Like you, I have poagies on my fatbike handlebars.
Love it! Thank you for sharing!
I'm glad it helps!
Many think winter cycling is extreme.
Mostly itβs just getting dressed.
15 km in β19Β°C β winter gear to corporate attire.
This is my system.

3yo bedtime logic is epic.
Sir Squawk sneaks out after bedtime, so I sit at the top of the stairs.
3: You can go now mommy, Iβm asleep.
Me: You canβt talk if youβre asleep.
3: (thinks) Iβm sleeping like Daddy (fake snores)
No notes.
I made some Christmas cookies.

My favorite bike for winter riding
The irony is not lost on me that the best car free place to enjoy holiday lights in Edmonton is the Alberta Legislature
