The cherry on top is having to back pay everyone you argued you had to fire for low productivity but ended up paying them for not working at all.

NIH Grants Fueled $95 Billion In FY 2024 Economic Activity, Finds New Report National Institutes of Health grants generated almost $95 billion in economic activity nationwide in FY 2024 according to a new report by United for Medical Research.

New report shows that NIH grants fueled $95 billion in economic activity and 407,782 jobs in 2024.

That's not to mention the countless lives that biomedical research has saved.

Show me a better investment than that.

The story of the National Park Service here is one of conservation successes & significant errors & learning from both.

I never fail to be inspired by the wildlife, the geology & the conservation history.

Graph of federal employees over time showing a flatline trend since the late 1960s

When the dismantlists talk about "trimming the fat" or "bloated" whatever relating to the federal government, remind them that there have been about the same number of federal employees since the 1960s.
Meanwhile US population has increased by ~70% and GDP has increased 29-fold.

This is a great thread. Thanks for taking the time. There’s a broader truth here that applies to so many functions that will be disrupted. It takes deep knowledge of these systems to make real and meaningful improvements

Thank you, DOGE, for clearly visualizing what incredible value the American people get from their national parks. 17,700 permanent employees making an average of $81,000 a year serving 325 million visitors annually.

Is there a better value in the entire federal government?

There’s really nothing funny about it, in reality, but this approach has something lol about it when it’s put this way.
