same - it's a cursed headline, which is why I had to share it like Ringu

Having a teary cup of tea about this today. It delights and stuns me to see this kind of thoughtful writing about something my dad had a hand in bringing to life. The art we make keeps moving through the world, even after we’re gone. It can be silly and meaningful all at once.

this may have also made me teary - it means so much to me that you read this! Highlander is what every genre movie should aspire to be: goofy and fun on the surface, but not without intelligence, substance, and soul. It's a very meaningful movie to me, and I'm far from alone in feeling that way.

yeah! I watched some of it as a kid in the '90s and had no idea who anyone was, so the guest stars shocked me this time around - Ron Perlman, Wes Studi, Vincent Schiavelli, some real heavy-hitters. Banks is among my favorites, too.

bringing my Highlander obsession over to bluesky with a cinematography appreciation post. the backlighting, the fog - just a gorgeous film. wish movies still looked like this.

rewatched the series a few years ago, and it isn't always great, but it's consistently fun and introduces cool shit into the Highlander universe, like the Dark Quickening, Methos, the Watchers (mortal secret archivists of the Immortals). might import the big twitter thread I wrote about it sometime.

I love that sense of fun, and to me all the imperfections of Highlander are a feature not a bug - e.g. that no one's bothering to hide their accents, that Lambert is too blind for swordfighting. it's just so idiosyncratic, textured, and human in ways that don't feel like they're allowed anymore

there's so much bad in the world but there's also people who lift up and carry an elderly bat around every day so he can pretend he's flying again, and that's the part of the world I think is worth fighting for

polygon article "celebrating" the 40th anniversary of Highlander by taking a dump on it: "For its 40th anniversary, a look back at the self-serious slog that is 1986's Highlander"

in the past few years I've lost loved ones: friends, an ex, my dog. Highlander helped me through it, and its goofiness is exactly what made it perfect for that purpose - watching movies that confront grief head on would've felt too raw. anyway whoever cooked this shit up can go fuck themselves lol
