@lufbrabirder
Birds, moths and general wildlife. Mainly local these days, Lufbra 10k including Swithland Reservoir, but still interested in my old haunts like Yorkshire, south Devon and west Cornwall. Leics/Rutland now, list 275 post Avilist, with 238 self-found.

Does anyone know why she is there?
Just read the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust are splashing out ยฃ300,000 on yet another pointless supposed reintroduction of guess what?
Yes, White Storks.
If I was a member I would be resigning. #birds #derbyshire
I think they originate from a private reserve near Ely, a guy called Tony Martin if I remember right.
Apparently itis a Magpie-lark. I was thinking some sort of Lapwing.

Anyone ID the black and white bird flushed by Verstappen's F1 qualifying crash?
It knows you are not 'new to Spurn' Stuart. Powerful stuff this AI !!
Age 8 will be a code not a number of years - no way could an eight year old Oyc be aged.
And me.
Some birds do look as if they are AI creations - the two picathartes spring to mind.
Definitely worth keeping an eye on woodland just across the county boundary too Dave. Goshawks suddenly appeared in Charnwood Forest last year and at least eight showing there on good days recently.
I see it was on the roof of the Penzance Lidl at one stage - beats Waxwings in Sainsburys carpark.
I prefer this type of numbers to when people claim ridiculous accuracy such as 7003 Grey Plovers. Years ago at Spurn the roll call included 10,001 Knot as there were about 10,000 on the Humber and one somewhere else.
Sad to learn yesterday that Marj Cunningham passed away on Friday after a difficult couple of years. One of the long term characters of East Yorkshire birding, as interested in birders as birds. Condolences to Peter and her other relatives. #YorkshireBirding
Lots if blue sky for the first morning in ages and I was hoping for a bit of passage but absolutely zilch so far #PWC2026
Sunrise? That must be a southern thing. No sign of one here for ages, just dismal grey clouds and drizzle.
Don't we have suitable 'ambassadors' already? Spoonbills, three species of egrets , Cranes, and not forgetting Little Ringed Plovers, are all naturally using UK wetlands. If the habitat is there and conditions are right then suited species will colonise in time.
And now closed after a great response.
A crowdfunding appeal has been launched to secure the future of the Beacon Ponds Little Tern Project โ one of the UK's most successful seabird conservation programmes:
Running for a week or so and over ยฃ10,000 raised so far. Includes a great donation from the Global Birdfair of ยฃ1000 linked to last year's saving seabirds theme.
The onl luggage problem I ever had in 40 years of world birdibg was when KLM list my wide's case when we were rerouted from Amsterdam to Lima via New York. Fortunately the case caught up with us four days later in Arequipa.
If you can support the appeal, or help by sharing it more widely, we would be incredibly grateful.
You can donate here:

Please help us give Little Terns at Beacon Ponds the protection they need in 2026.
A species to be on the lookout for this month is Eurasian White-fronted Goose photographed by Daniel Langston earlier this month on his patch surrounded by Greylag Geese. Particularly worthwhile looking for if hoped for cold easterlies return.
Another goose species to be on the lookout for this month is Tundra Bean Goose (now a three pointer) photographed here by Stuart Ainsworth on his patch on the 1st January. It has been a remarkable winter for this species inland and could happen again if cold easterlies return.
We are now half way through the first month of #PWC2026! Are you going to be out on your patch this weekend? Remember to keep us updated with pictures and sightings with the hashtags, good luck!

Why use Historical for yesterday?
Yes, my CMR spotted that.
Stick with Bearded Tit. There are other birds that don't have the right names strictly speaking - Long-tailed Tit for a start.
I assumed last year's.
Looks a very small and quite dark bird with properly orange legs, pink bill and a bit of a white face. Suggests a first-winter Lesser White-front maybe?
Started the Swithland Res year with a cold four-hour session that yielded 50 species, highlight a displaying flock of 23 Mandarins #PWC2026
