To be honest, a good starting point is ensuring all subjects have glossaries and key word banks students can access when practising more extended responses.

Great SLT. It's in a classroom teacher's best interests to teach good lessons, and with a great SLT you can create a culture which encourages them to improve. Self-interested SLT will ultimately cause all the great staff to leave so it won't stay that way for long!
