We had to do this when my kid broke his nose. “Other: mosh pit injury.”

Gen X Latinx. Environmental & climate justice, anti-racist, improving intersectional feminist, anti-authoritarian, anti-genocide. Books, photos from my walks, poetry, politics, dad jokes. Overwhelmed, caminando.
We had to do this when my kid broke his nose. “Other: mosh pit injury.”
I was in college and graduate school (MIT/Georgia Tech/UC Berkeley), and starting my civil service career in Washington DC, from the late eighties through the 2000s. (And I grew up in NM.) Reading this, I can’t shake the horrible feeling that I was in some kind of proximity to these horrors.
Uhhhhhh ummmmm uhhhh I don't think we can keep this up
I wrote about my childhood friend Alexi Pretti. Please read it and share it and remember him as a human being. @theverge.com
and we didn't have to listen to what Charlie Kirk thinks about any of this
Let's fix this a bit. (the thread gives links)
Tonight (Monday) 8pm ET:
virtual training on exercising your #rights at a time when federal agents are terrorizing our communities. #ICEOut

And not only games! I wrote many high school papers using the perfectly serviceable word processor that sprang to life when I typed in a bunch of code from COMPUTE! magazine.
“Obviously, Trump is hardly the only US president in recent history to engage in blatantly illegal action abroad – although he does manage to add a certain dramatic layer of dementedness to everything he does.”

Seeing how much of the right-wing on Twitter is just bot farms, kinda lays bare how much hate and hatred is a project that needs to be constantly maintained, a fire that needs to be fed all the time lest it go out for a moment, so much time, effort, and resources to keep people angry and hateful.
100% agreement with this - My Latinx family and in-laws include lots of working class, high school educated folks, many of whom scrambled their way into the middle class via jobs in the prison industry. Others who did not either took their chances in construction or some such, or remained poor.
Correction: The administration is CLAIMING that they have discretion regarding back pay. Nevertheless, the Government Employee Fair Treatment Act of 2019 clearly states that federal employees must receive back pay after a shutdown ends. www.nbcnews.com/politics/tru...
THEY CLOSED PUBLIC POOLS RATHER THAN SWIM WITH BLACK PEOPLE
YOU ARE DEALING WITH THE SAME GROUP OF PEOPLE AS THE FOLKS WHO DID THIS
PLEASE WAKE THE FUCK UP
OMG, I used to have that album on the right when I was growing up!
I have the same hypothesis about the “rolling coal” guys.
Mostly just heard the big rumble with a little vibration (in NW Berkeley), but that was disconcerting enough!
And after Nextar and Sinclair blocked the show from airing on their stations. slate.com/technology/2...
It’s going to break your heart how many people you know, love, and respect will turn out to be cowards. Prepare yourself as best you can. You are not alone, but you are your own center. Be a strong center.
Thank you for the heads up!
A grim reminder: these people will never be satisfied. There’s no point at which they will say “we’ve won, let’s enjoy life.” They will always be looking for someone else to punish, to revile, to dehumanize. They’re empty without that.
The left was derided for promoting a cancel culture because they went after predators and those who abused their wealth and power.
The right is canceling anyone who dares speak truth to power.
Both sides are not remotely the same.

If I could just summarize 1 sentence from the new National Academy of Sciences study on climate, boldface, flashing red, it would be:
"the evidence for current and future harm to human health and welfare created by human-caused GHGs is beyond scientific dispute."
BEYOND SCIENTIFIC DISPUTE

Thank you, Marisa Kabas.
Many of us are totally invested in demonstrably false notions of American peacefulness, respectability, and decorum.
Which work? Calling for gay people to be stoned to death? Blaming airplane crashes on black pilots? Anti-vax bullshit? Election denialism? Pushing Great Replacement Theory?
Kirk’s murder is awful and ominous for this country. But no, we don’t need to honor him or “continue his work.”
I grew up there and may end up there. It’s a great place. Amazing landscape and skies (and 4 seasons, thank you very much), many scars from colonization and the Cold War, an amazing array of intact and distinct cultures, economy totally based on oil and the military.
This is silly. NM has four seasons, including intense monsoon rains and a burgeoning ski industry.
