South Carolina Hospitals Aren’t Required to Disclose Measles-Related Admissions. That Leaves Doctors in the Dark. Physicians across South Carolina, home to the largest measles outbreak in decades, are advising patients without the benefit of real-time data on hospitalizations due to measles-related pneumonia, bra...

NEW: South Carolina, which doesn’t require hospitals to disclose measles-related admissions, has reported only 20 such hospitalizations since Oct. 2.

That leaves doctors with an incomplete picture of how the outbreak is affecting the community.

Health Department Study Highlights Racial and Ethnic Inequities in Wealth and Health Among New Yorkers - NYC Health

NYC measured wealth (assets minus debt) + health across 11 racial/ethnic groups.

Punchline: wealth helps, but it doesn’t erase racism.

Next: measure wealth in surveillance + treat debt relief and asset-building as health policy.

Health policy is economic policy.

Opinion | I’m a doctor. The consequences of ICE presence in hospitals could be deadly. Dr. UchΓ© Blackstock: The mere presence of immigration agents at or near hospitals and clinics is creating an understandable fear.

Health care spaces should be safe for all regardless of status. As @ucheblackstockmd.bsky.social highlights in this post "Fear delays care, and delayed care harms patients."

I am seeing this every day. People afraid to come for medical care. Afraid to see a specialist or get an x-ray. They are afraid regardless of status, because it is abundantly clear to anyone paying attention that legal status (even citizenship) doesn't protect you

The American Academy of Pediatrics released its 2026 childhood and adolescent immunization schedule, endorsed by 12 leading medical and health organizations. It continues to recommend routine vaccination to protect against 18 infectious diseases.

The AAP is no longer endorsing the CDC schedule.

At the end of the day, the Black Lives Matter era was about whether people should be killed in the street, and lots of people decided yeah and put those little blue flags on their cars. It spread to everyone because it stopped for no one.

I'm sorry for the person who was beat to death and killed. My sincere condolences to their loved ones. ICE is going to continue to kill people because the purpose of a system is what it does. It is not what it says it does or what you hope it does. Maybe USians will finally confront this truth.

Infectious diseases don’t respect borders. Preparedness depends on staying connected

Measles has been eliminated in the U.S. since 2000. We have not officially lost that status, but sustained spread could change that. Elimination took decades of public health work. When measles returns, it is often the warning sign. If unsure, check your family’s MMR status.

Also, check your own record. I got an MMR dose a year ago at the age of 67 because I could find no record that I'd ever had measles or received a full series of vaccinations. I was born in the first year (1957) that the pre-RFK, Jr. CDC said you could no longer assume that you'd had measles.

South Carolina measles outbreak: measles is extremely contagious and most cases so far are in unvaccinated kids.

The good news: MMR vaccine is highly effective and measles is almost entirely preventable.

Check your child’s vaccine record.
