Making Your Book Public
Promoting your book starts before youβve even finished writing. In this workshop, publishing insiders talk about the practical things scholarly authors can do to ensure the greatest impact for their ideas and how their publisher can help.
What goes into promoting your book, and how can you as an author help? Check out this video featuring insights from marketing professionals @illinoispress.bsky.social and @uofmpress.bsky.social, hosted by Rutgers Center for Minority Serving Institutions.

"It is not the fault of publishers if universities offer few incentives and little training for scholars to take on work as peer reviewers." -- THANK YOU. Not that this absolves pubs of all responsibility but peer reviewing has always been a thorny labor issue.

Scammer 1: How much do you think we should charge for this fake book club?
Scammer 2: F it. Letβs take these scholarly authors for all theyβre worth. Lifetime royalties.
Scammer 1: Ok so like $72?

Also important to remember that the process of properly turning that manuscript into a book involves an immense amount of sometimes invisible labor which takes TIME. If your book is in production for many months, itβs because theyβre doing it right (not cutting corners).

These are precarious times for nonfiction publishers. Getting the word out is harder than ever now. I highly recommend that people sign up to receive newsletters and other information directly from the publishers who put out stuff you like. Youβll also hear about bonus discounts and other deals.

Ulysses Annotated by Don Gifford - Paper
Scholarship is a powerful tool for changing how people think, plan, and govern. By giving voice to bright minds and bold ideas, we seek to foster understanding and drive progressive change.
Of course! Though I will admit that most of the annotations are basically directly paraphrased from the Gifford, so you might just be better off just buying that instead of squinting at my handwriting π tinyurl.com/52z2dbac
