The Tyee is proud to have published this important investigation by @rachelgilmore.bsky.social. We condemn this egregious harassment of a journalist for doing her job, and have offered support as she deals with this disturbing situation.
SAYS POLICE UNION HEAD
Photo of a newspaper clipping: βholidays in war time. Theres no need to use your car, gasoline, or rubber to reach Qualicum Beach. Come by train and enjoy the warm sands, golfing, and hikingβ
I love this 1940s ad for a holiday at Qualicum Beach. With war time restrictions on gas, rubber, metals, etc, staying on the Island and taking the train was a great option.
Anyway, we donβt have a train anymore.
this is not an amount of money any individual or household should be able to have and we have to abolish both billionaires as a group and the economic system that makes them possible
I've been told that Ken Sim told his team that a stranger waived a physical photo at him during a Chinatown event and falsely claimed that it was Orr dealing drugs on Christmas Day.
The mayor doesn't remember the specific contents or style of the photo, and can't remember who showed it to him.
nor is the five day work week!
Sim abruptly leaves after three questions, not answering who gave him the photo or if he will post an apology on WeChat, saying saying thatβs all the time he has.
A question is asked of a member of the mayorsβ office, who says βsend us an emailβ and leaves.
βWhat a farce,β says someone.
All I can think about is Jeff Bezos saying that he slashed jobs at the Washington Post β including those of foreign correspondents in the Middle East β based on "the data," and a few weeks later a whole war breaks out in the Middle East that these laid off folks would have covered as true experts.
Prime Minister Mark Carney cancelled what would have been his first press conference since his India trip began 5 days ago with his office citing lengthy meetings in New Delhi that have strained his schedule.
So far he has not taken 1 question from Canadian journalists on a trip that began Feb. 26.
Internet connectivity in Iran was never fully restored after the January protests, but is once again non-existent following US-Israel strikes
just love that every single fucking ad on crave is for the armed forces
so where does the next generation of talent come from? who are the young journalists, and how are they paid? every career incentive, both economic and prestige-wise, now points to the olivia nuzzi route
Carney backing regime change by a guy who keeps threatening to annex his country, suicide rightism has nothing on suicide neoliberalism
Carney's Davos speech appears to be the coup de grΓ’ce in a very effective PR campaign executed over the last few days. It's catalyzed the illusion that Canada's approach to foreign policy has fundamentally changed. It has also served as a rearguard action to cement the Liberals domestic support.
To this I'd add that Carney isn't just responding to Trump; he's showing the next US president -- Democratic or Republican -- that Canada, or at least Carney's Canada, has no red lines, no principles worth defending, and no guts for a real fight if push comes to shove (and it will).
This is the statement the Canadian government releases while Israel and the US bomb schools.

This War Will Destabilize The Entire Mideast Region And Set Off A Global Shockwave Of Anti-Americanism vs. No It Wonβt
I can't fucking believe we're doing this again.
White House officials believe 'the politics are a lot better' if Israel strikes Iran first As the administration mulls military action in Iran, officials argue it'd be best if Israel makes the first move.
The precise relationship btw US imperial interests and Israeli territorial expansion and regional hegemony is often complex and then, sometimes itβs v clear
also to be clear the relationship between Athena and Juicy is beautiful, queer family is a gift
at least the judging made more sense this episode
sacrificing a good lipsync in order to play up the drama, I guess
