who has a place in your kingdom.
May I not be afraid to ask questions or to show where I lack knowledge and expertise.
Grant my new boss, supervisor, and coworkers the patience and grace needed as I onboard to this new position.
Amen.

A prayer for my first day of a new job in a new field. Sharing for anyone else beginning a new job today:

Lord have mercy on me as I venture into this new realm of work.
May I learn new things about your love and see you anew.
May I see each person I come across as a beloved child of God

Irish coffee in a clear mug

Irish coffee in a clear mug

My grandma died in 1998, when I was 8 years old. In order to keep her memory alive, my family toasted Irish Coffee (her favorite drink) on her birth and death dates. I don't remember her like my cousins or brother do, but I know I was loved.

Cheers, grandma Bev.

I read poetry and blessings. And I read of the love of an expansive God.

I also discovered "cozy fantasy" and enjoyed visiting libraries.

Looking forward to what books and reading brings in 2026!

Aimed for 100 books, made it to 89.

While there was a lot of "romance", there was also progressive, indigenous, black, and minority voices. Refreshing ways to think about and hear from God. I read through the New Testament and Psalms and Proverbs in the First Nations Version.

Collective effort. Yes. Love that. That is so forgotten in many Evangelical circles when it comes to justice. There is so much to just being on someone's side. Thank you!

Someone asked my husband after his sermon on justice if it will ever come to fruition and implying why do it.

He responded: We still evangelize even though not everyone will be saved. We seek justice even if not everyone receives it.

Her mind was blown. Eyes are opening.

"Block points out that these ten do not focus on a person's own rights but the rights of one's neighbor. The job of every Israelite is to protect other people's freedoms. And it's done by keeping the Ten Words."

"Anxious scarcity evokes no gratitude, but only exploitation and violence. The doxological conviction of Israel is that anxious anti-neighborly action (as in the case of pharaoh) generates scarcity. Conversely, generous action evokes generosity in the fruitfulness of creation."

News anchors talking about the Conclave and Pope Leo XIV seem like 7th graders learning new vocab words and trying to use the words in sentences...

"the CONCLAVE..."
"INSTALLATION of the new Pope..."

We should lament these destructive behaviors.

We should repent of these destructive behaviors.

Lord have mercy. Christ have mercy.

It is important to lament destructive behavior.

And it is important to repent if destructive behavior - even when it's not our own.

There is so much destruction in our world, from deporting people without due process to El Salvador to killing innocent Palestinians in Gaza...

But then this B-52, the lives it took, the villages it flattened. An awful agent of destruction.

I wonder if those early aviators, especially the women who just loved the feel of freedom in the sky, imagined what their development and contribution to aviation would create...

As all 4 of walked around the B-52, our moods changed. A somberness settled over us.

Aviation is pretty amazing. The development of engines and materials used to create planes; the stories of women aviators in the 20s-40s is inspiring...

Visited the Kansas Aviation Museum yesterday with my parents (who are visiting from Oregon) and my husband. Outside are a dozen planes of various sizes, some used to transport cargo others people.

There was one B-52 bomber - which is GIANT. It was used in the 70s to bomb Vietnam...

But it got me thinking. What if we carried palms all the time, as a show of allegiance to Jesus as King? The early Christians had a way of finding each other. How do we?

Was on a walk around the apartment complex yesterday evening. Passed a man entering his apartment with palms in his arms.

Instead of saying a neighborly "hello," I said "Nice palms."

He chuckled and said, "Thanks, there a little wilted."

It felt like we were drawing fish in the sand.

I was not prepared for the surge of emotions watching the Handmaid's Tale when they tell each other their names. Names, speaking names, being named, naming names is such an act of resistance.

Last summer I went shell hunting. Today I finally found a home for some of the shells. All the shells - clam, oyster, sand dollars, hermit crab - are from the Oregon and Washington coasts.

Now Marcell the Shell is home.

I was today year's old when I realized the stocks shown on the local news are (often) LOCAL companies.

How did I realize this?

I am watching KAKE News in Wichita show Evergy & Spirit Aerosystems.

But I remember KATU in Portland (home) shows Columbia, Nike, Starbucks.

Mind blown!
