This is a statement for a white audience. There’s no conflict between what we see now & the narrative about America you believed if you’re Black.
Just a reminder that Muslims have been on this continent since the first arrival of non-Indigenous people. They were among the first generation of Americans, and have been here ever since.
Sally Rooney: "I would like to ask my fellow writers & artists.. not to dwell too exclusively on what we stand to lose. There is another more important side to the story. To join in something greater than ourselves, to participate in.. a struggle for human liberation"
I get yelled at for saying this but for many hundreds of years people went to university not to get diplomas or be employable but because immersion in the humanities was considered foundational to a good life, and school must return to its original purpose: the joy of learning.
In The Future That Was, I document how Intnl Women’s Day was key for women fighting against neofascist states in Iran, Algeria, Pakistan forty yrs ago
Women took to the streets, faced down the police, and were beaten/arrested fighting authoritarian laws
Solidarity on International Women’s Day ✊🏽
Obama: "We are living in a time where it can be hard to hope. Each day we wake up to some new assault on our democratic institutions. Another setback to the idea of the rule of law ... but this man - Rev. Jesse Jackson - inspires us to take a harder path ... bc if we don't step up, nobody else will"
Just sent out a free piece to expand on my article in @theatlantic.com yesterday. The signs of rot in US military and diplomatic capabilities are real and even more extensive than I could say in that article. Here are more-and a gift link to the original article. open.substack.com/pub/phillips...
Everyone needs to know the extent of what the U.S did.
An unarmed Iranian ship invited to a joint Indian naval exercise paraded its sailors before the president alongside other participants, including the U.S.
At the last minute, the U.S. withdrew from the exercise and torpedoed the Iranian vessel

Pres Trump told me tonight the US had identified possible candidates to take over Iran, but they were killed in the initial attack. "The attack was so successful it knocked out most of the candidates," Trump told me. "It's not going to be anybody that we were thinking of because they are all dead. Second or third place is dead."
complete insanity
The phrase “preemptive strike” is as insulting as when we were sold “humanitarian pauses” in the middle of a live-streamed genocide. The powerful looking you straight in the face and telling you your common sense simply doesn’t matter.
Inhumanity and insanity. The sort of thing a dying empire does.
The world could be such a nice place if we allowed it. It's all so goddamn unnecessary. There's no need for any of it. It's so beautiful here. It should be so cool to be alive
Mass horror at the killings of Renee Good & Alex Pretti has DHS’s budget at stake.
And yet in the past week, agents left a blind refugee to die alone.
And lied about it.
They pretended to be police looking for a missing child, to detain a college kid.
And lied about it.
What does this tell you?
“Elite impunity is now an American national project…. This has been the priority for the wealthy and powerful, who have managed to convince a critical mass of Americans that they will be able to enjoy the same privileges. They won’t.”

"Former Harvard President Larry Summers will resign from his academic and faculty appointments at Harvard at the end of the academic year, relinquishing his University Professorship — Harvard’s highest faculty distinction — and remaining on leave until that time"
So I think it's fair to say that only a tiny, tiny percentage of the US population was tied up with Epstein. But weirdly maybe 70% of the people in the field of evolutionary psychology.
