2) Properties are supposed to be re-evaluated regularly to make sure theyโre being used for charitable purposes (the main qualification for tax-exempt status). But the county office that conducts those reviews faces a critical staffing shortage and has fallen years behind.
1) If those properties were taxed, the city would collect $35 million a year โ enough to give a 10% tax cut to every other property owner, or cover Pittsburghโs entire annual emergency medical services budget.
