Rates of most distress measures peaked during the COVID years (2020-21). The proportion of teens repetitively self-harming did not return to pre-COVID levels, unlike other measures of distress.

We found online bullying rarely occurs in isolation. 20% of this large UK cohort said they had been bullied online at some point in their teens, but almost all of these also reported at least one other type of in-person victimisation during this time.

These associations were found in both males and females, but all risk markers (heavy screen use, poor body image, & sexting) were more common among females.

Psychosis and bipolar disorder risk in child and adolescent mental health services in the UK: population cohort study
@iankellehermd.bsky.social and co previously demonstrated that ~50% of those with psychosis and bipolar disorder had been to CAMHs in Finland.
That was no fluke, as they have now demonstrated that it's 45% in wales. Great work by @kirstieohare.bsky.social π π

I wrote a blog back in May about 30-year trends in self-reported psychological distress.
Have things changed? From the 1990s to the early 00s-- not so much. But from the 2010s onwards-- possibly, and most evidently for young people.
