Like I grew up learning that I couldn't rely on anyone who said they'd be there for me as what that really meant is they'd yell at me if I had problems
Which seeing how fucked that made my head, I decided I wasn't going to do that to anyone else
So if I offer someone help, I mean what I say
Saying you'll "be there for someone any time" should mean you're there for them *any* time they need you
Not just whenevers convenient for you
You can be supportive and have limits, just be clear on that
And if you don't mean it, don't say it
Or maybe I'm just too autistic
Always disheartens me hearing how folks get burnt by false offers of assistance or support from their peers
Performative offers to "help" or "be there" for someone just suck and makes it harder for anyone to trust those who actually mean what they say
