The blog post superbly identifies the issues, as set out in recent comments by others in their blog posts - but is it possible to get society to engage? I really wish so. Not helped by Badenoch speech/ narratives: www.conservatives.com/news/kemi-ba...
*Brilliant*, as ever, by @profmarkelliott.bsky.social - but I fear the tabloid press/ Reform UK are simply not interested in debate, hence tactical positions adopted by ECHR's defenders? The developing domestic debate about the ECHR: Navigating two extremes publiclawforeveryone.com/2025/07/09/t...
peace and quiet on campus to get on with things.... bar, of course, the inevitable annual (it happens every year, it seems) building noise right outside your office, making it impossible
*2010s (but also today)
@lewisgrahamlaw.bsky.social aside from individual cases as activist/ otherwise, I also have the sense that pushback over 201s reflects a feeling that the ECHR's influence just became 'too big' for the political appetite of some. ... extract below from smthg I am writing, which cites Wildhaber (2017)
btw I do not think that it was a change of President at the ECtHR that did it (Wildhaber [President up until 2007, was in the minority in Hirst, and an advocate of self-restraint] - but otherwise I see what Lord Reed argues for here...

The final meeting of the Core Group of States towards the establishment of a Special Tribunal for the Crime of Agression in Ukraine concluded yesterday.
Now that the technical ground work is done the question is whether there is political will to establish the tribunal.
Far from certain.

@kemibadenochmp.bsky.social '... ECHR rulings morphed so fundamentally that they now limit our ability to control our borders...' - really? Please justify with facts. Re 'Rwanda ruling': ECHR/ Int law held unlawful as R was unsafe so not unlawful per se - as to the law in issue UKSC stated:
#OnThisDay in 1982, the European Court of Human Rights ruled that using corporal punishment in UK schools, against parentsβ wishes, was not OK.
The practice was subsequently banned, benefitting generations of British children.
