Always wanting to know what's around the corner & over the horizon, & determined to find out. (Avatar & banner is painting of a kitten in an upturned umbrella, at sea with high waves on either side, floating toward the sunrise.) Art by Petra Brandström

That would be worth at least *two* pints. 😊
🤩
Congratulations! That's wonderful news! 🎉
Oh! This is so much sadder than I first realised!
I thought it read '... a constellation, marking the course FOR those lost at sea …' 😔
This is a whole different story ... 😯
(Can still be a good one! Just not the one I first thought!)
I was actually just thinking about this - what was the original incident? I keep thinking it was a discovered sausage roll or similar, and now every day there is hope of another. 😊
Did it survive? Or is another Sunday feast for the local foxes?
I am so sorry, Joanne. Not just for all the mess, expense, & bother - but also for the old window. I like the aesthetic & history of original architecture & sad when it is destroyed.
But mostly sorry for the mess, expense, & bother. 😣
Illustration by Charles E. Brock, 1895. Elizabeth is seated at a pianoforte while Colonel Fitzwilliam is turning the sheet music for her. Mr. Darcy is standing haughtily near them, trying to make conversation with Elizabeth. It is captioned "You mean to frighten me, Mr. Darcy?"
"There is a stubbornness about me that never can bear to be frightened at the will of others. My courage always rises at every attempt to intimidate me."

Wife, military general, AND high priestess?! 😳
I am going to have to learn more about her, aren’t I? 😵 😄
(Thank you so much for these! 🙏)
I am wondering if you have seen this? I saw it, thought of you, and especially this thread.

Day Seven!
Bashert - by Y.M. Resnik (@YMResnik.bsky.social)
Food and fates. Miracles and meet-cutes. Downright adorable. This hit all the happy notes for me. 🥰
This is the last in (this round of) the series. I hope you find some new faves! 🎉

How far do you go with the classics? I want to be well-read, I want to understand where expressions & ideas come from, why the classics are classics - but more & more I want something modern (& not cis white) over something from '100 Best Books of All Time'. Not sure if I'm lazy or sensible. 😄
I know you must be trying All The Things - I really hope you find the one thing or some combination of things that will finally give you relief! 🙏
Err ... that's *one* word for it. 😶
Hoping for very calm, predictable, nay even *boring* days for you (& your whole family) soon! 🙏
Just seeing this now! 😧 (Real life keeping me away for a bit.)
How is she doing today?
I really wish you could live in less interesting times for a while ... 🙄
Day Six!
All The Difference - by David M. Barry (@DavidMBarry.bsky.social)
This has always been a favourite, but I am especially thinking about it a lot these days ... choices, choices .... 🧐 😊

I always love your work, but this is 🤩. 🥰
Day Five!
A Silhouette Against Armageddon by John Wiswell (@Wiswell.bsky.social)
Short and sweet, and one of my all-time favourites ... 🥰

So what do you do? Still keep a notebook in every purse & jacket pocket? Voice notes (not always discreet) or typed notes (more of a pain than quick scribbles) on your phone?
Do you just try to remember it until you get home?
At least if it is a visual idea, the phone is useful for a photo! 😊
Huzzah! Congratulations!! 🎉
Day Four!
A Runaway Android’s Guide to the Oro-Ti Night Market by M.R. Robinson (@mruthrobinson.bsky.social)
A beautiful story of the journeys we must sometimes take, and the community that will help us find our way.

Day Two!
A Glass Darkly by Micháel McCormick (his website link at the end of the story)
'Lily hesitated at the bend where Willow Creek turned brown like root beer, swirling past gnarled tree roots. People said the Brujo lived there.'

Also, Medieval, Mermaids, Monasteries, Museums, Pies, Pilgrimages, Pottery, Snails, Solstice, Spiders, Spirits, Trains, Trees, Trolls ... 😃
(I have a lot of fun with keywords! Especially when I think one is new & I go 'Wait - I *already* have another story on invisibility? 😄)
#ShortStoryFaves
Also, if you would like a sneak preview, here are some of my top keywords. 😄
Art, Choices, Community, Dragons, Education, Family, Fairy tales, First contact, Friendship, History, Identity, Journeys, Kindness, Lists, Magic, Meet-cute, Music, Rebellion, Recipes, & Time travel ... 😄
#ShortStoryFaves
I just added it to another, when I generated the list & went 'Wait - where's X? It should be here!'
So ... very incomplete, very much work-in-progress database - but well-beloved all the same. 🥰
I hope you find lots of authors, stories & mags that will become your faves too. 🙏
#ShortStoryFaves
The list isn't anywhere *near* complete - I have only just started keeping track of short stories at all in maybe the last two years, and new keywords are being added all the time. I was at least a year in before I realised 'Favourite' might be useful. 🙄 😄
#ShortStoryFaves
I keep thinking about the recent "Name 3 recent short stories you've read by a single author"; maybe it would be useful to specifically post some favourites with a link?
One a day for a week - and every so often I will do it again with more & different stories. 😊
