The new missions they added for the PC port are pretty meh. It's heavy on combat but light on set pieces, you just get what feels like a super rushed fight with brumak in a flat square arena, and it's barely even a fight. Not really a game that needed to be longer just to prop up the narrative.

Also the AI is somehow way worse. At least for allies. They keep straight up getting stuck, so you're basically solo until the game teleports them to next checkpoint.

It's sharp and runs super fast, which felt extremely off after 30 hours with 30fps, but the lighting is way too bright with some scenes being downgraded, like when sun goes down in Act 2 it's now just sky dimming. Some textures also seem kinda bugged.

Lied about being done with Gears 1 cause I decided to run through the PC version that added like 5 levels or something. I'm near the end of act 3 and overall it's kinda shittier version of the original game.

EA people quit Apex Legends and try to make Rust. Jeff Kaplan quits Blizzard and also tries to make Rust. What's in the water?

That's another series I gotta hop onto. Only every watched it from the sidelines cause I'm not a very GTA kind of person.

Been pretty negative lately, but Cyberpunk is up next, and I doubt I'm gonna enjoy it less than I did on release (which is a lot). Just walking around the city in that game is a joy.

Invincible VS not putting out a beta on PC because of data mining sounds like the dumbest shit ever. It's a valid concern in a sense that cracks or leaks happened to Tekken 8, Street Fighter, Strive, and probably others, but also those examples should tell you that it doesn't fucking matter.

It's so funny too when people talk about remaster and remakes like "We need a way for younger people to be able to appreciate and enjoy these games too :)" when the number one consumer is cowardly millennials.

"Why are younger players gravitating toward retro titles - and how should studios respond to this trend?"
Heroes III is the top-selling retro game on GOG... and almost half of buyers are under the age of 25.
GOG's theory: for younger generations that grew up with Minecraft and Roblox, graphical/technical fidelity *does not matter*, which is a huge market shift #GDC2026

I feel like most people I know haven't really played it, and I rarely see people actually talk about the series, so I have to assume much of the reverence surrounding it is from teens who were hit with it at the perfect time. It's still kinda worth a play, but only on casual and preferably in co-op.

Ok that's Gears 1 done on all difficulties now. Profoundly dogshit experience on Insane. It doesn't really push you or force properly interacting with core mechanics, it just makes it obvious that the difficulties past casual were an afterthought, just as gameplay in general.

with the exploit*. Which supposedly works in the remakes as well. He just can't patch to you through a concerete block on the ground so you blindfire roughly 400 bullets into him at point blank.

Pretty much every single post about Gears 1 on Insane seems to revolve around two points. Which is the pumping station that has like a dozen of spongiest enemies with instakill weapons, and Raam, who most people kill the exploit.

Though it's honestly really pathetic (entirely in line with games marketing of the time I guess) that Microsoft ordered this reality show, and apparently just gave zero fucks about misinformation that it would result in.

The Chainsaw Hoax
YouTube video by Laura Fryer
Looked more into this and apparently the chainsaw stuff was bullshit cause they were talking about the final shot of the trailer and not the game.

It's kinda funny that people mostly talk about Uncharted and later PS4 exclusives as "movie games." But here's CliffyB reiterating that he wants to make this "beautiful cinematic experience" with visuals being at the forefront of everything.

What I'm getting from the Gears doc is that they did indeed want this to be a huge spectacle first and foremost. They barely even talk about the gameplay, and when they do, it's within the context of aesthetic and vibe that it evokes. "Roadie run is like shakie cam in the war movies," etc.
