Talarico's answer when I asked him last week about the "God is nonbinary" line:
James Talarico won the Texas Senate Democratic primaryโbut now the real ugliness begins, @elainegodfrey.bsky.social reports. Itโs โopen seasonโ for Republicans, a consultant told her:
Last week, Jasmine Crockett's campaign kicked me out of an event because (they alleged) I am a "top-notch hater."
My story about thatโand what today's primary election between Crockett and James Talarico means for Democratsโhere:

Online, the Texas primary has gotten uglyโbut that drama was far from the minds of the voters @elainegodfrey.bsky.social spoke with, who seemed to like both of their options. โRather than policy, their preferences came down to styleโand not much else,โ Godfrey reports.
@elainegodfrey.bsky.social: Representative Jasmine Crockett claimed I wasnโt kicked out of her rally. Hereโs the audio.

This week, the Atlantic staff writer @elainegodfrey.bsky.social was escorted from a Jasmine Crockett rally in Texas. On this episode of โRadio Atlantic,โ she speaks with @adamhsays.com about Crockettโs confrontational style and the upcoming primary election in Texas:
Texas lawmaker James Talarico is young, well-spoken, and eager to talk with Republicansโjust what some Democratic dreamers think they need to finally turn the state blue. But first, @elainegodfrey.bsky.social reports, heโd need to win the primary. She spoke with him in 2025:
"Minnesotans have preserved everything worthwhile about 'Western civilization,' while armed brutes try to tear it down by force."

Where many Democrats hear โAbolish ICEโ as a righteous call to action, others in the party register the clanging of alarm bells, @elainegodfrey.bsky.social reports.
โExecute the traitors!โ he shouted into a megaphone. โI wanna see executions!โ www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...
It "was one of the few times that Trumpโs most extreme supporters actually encountered the Republican lawmakers who have stoked their anger and encouraged their delusions for years."

Five years ago I was buying a hot pretzel from some guy on the Ellipse, hoping Trump would finish up soon, when a bunch of guys in riot gear started walking toward the Capitol.
I followed them, and wrote about what I saw:
Ultimately, Turning Point's Alex Clark isn't worried about losing women to the Democrats.
As more young men turn to the GOP, so will young women, because it's their "natural instinct to follow strong men and strong leadership," she told me.

Even as most congressional Republicans are avoiding their constituents, Mark Alford of Missouri bucked his party and held 15 public events this week. @elainegodfrey.bsky.social reports on what the representative heard:
Democratic voters have said they want a fighter, and now they might have one in Jasmine Crockett, @elainegodfrey.bsky.social writes. She spoke with Crockett about testing out the coarse style of politics that the GOP has embraced.
Democratic voters say they want fighters, and Jasmine Crockett has spent years trying to be one.
I spent several days with the Texas congresswoman this summerโin D.C., New York, and Atlantaโas she tested out her theory of Democratic politics in the second Trump era.

Four days before this story was published, Crockett called me to express frustration that I had reached out to so many House members without telling her first. She told me that she was โshutting down the profile and revoking all permissions.โ

But many of Crockett's colleagues declined or ignored my interview requests. Senior staffers for some of those colleagues told me that some of the members see Crockett undisciplinedโbut are reluctant to criticize her publicly.
Some of Crockettโs fellow Democrats find her candor refreshing. โPeople donโt necessarily agree with her aggressive communication style,โ Representative Julie Johnson of Texas told me. โIโm thrilled sheโs doing it, because we need it all.โ
The problem is that the forthrightness Crockett's supporters love seems to be undermining her relationships in the party.
โShe likes to talk,โ one staffer told me. โIs she a loose cannon? Sometimes. Does that cause headaches for other members? 100 percent.โ
Jasmine Crockett is testing out the idea that when Republicans go low, Democrats should meet them there.
Republicans understand this, Crockett told me. โMarjorie is not liked by her caucus, but they get her value, and so they gave her a committee chairmanship.โ

Last year, Crockett was a keynote speaker at the DNC and a national co-chair of the Harris campaign. This year, she's been a top party fundraiser.
Everywhere we went, people wanted selfies, and yelled things like "First black woman president!"
