Because all the biggest names are going to be there. It may well be a shitshow (the first NYC Comic con was a DISASTER) but it's going to be enormous.
The more controversial bit is they're owned by a company owned by Lexis Nexus who is collaborating with ICE and so a bunch of authors are backing out or threatening to boycott next year if ties aren't severed.
Oh, it's just massive and kinda clique-y. They had a note early on to get on a mailing list if you were interested in being on panels and there would be more info forthcoming; there never was, they filled their panels entirely with big name authors. Wouldn't return my publisher's calls.

Watching the absolute feeding frenzy that is the resurrected BookCon in NYC has been off-putting.
I think that's at least part of the problem - post-COVID, a lot of the hotels cranked up their fees by a lot. The organizers have to pay more, so they have to charge more, so only the artists who have optimized for profitability can afford the table fees, and it spirals.
I love this suit SO MUCH and I barely ever get to wear it anymore. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure I can no longer leave the house in the red heels witbout getting hella blisters 😆
