πDennis McGillicuddy just gave an excellent talk on the modeling effort to help with the design of an #OIF field trial. @whoi.edu
πWe're at #OSM26 to inform and educate on the need for responsible and transparent research into ocean iron fertilization #OIF for marine carbon dioxide removal #mCDR.
Talk today: 11:10 in Hall 3, Coral Cove CM12A-05
Posters today: 16-18h, CM14B-0789 & CM14B-0779

Transparent, responsible, & rigorous field research is critical for advancing mCDR. Congrats to the LOC-NESS team @whoi.edu on a successful OAE field trial and this article highlighting the science, community engagement, and need for this type of research.

Re-upping this piece by @mrmattsimon.bsky.social in @grist.org back in August about #OIF for #mCDR. Good work @smith8272.bsky.social and @eschwaab.bsky.social for your quotes in the article.
@cafethorium.bsky.social
Ken Buesseler & colleagues responded to an article about #mCDR in the @alaskabeacon.com that invites Alaskan coastal communities for a seat at the table via the #CLaM project. We agree. #OIF

π Just finished day 1 of this 2-day workshop on Community Capacity Gaps for Responsible #mCDR. Great to have experts from all angles of mCDR in the room and talking to each other.

This is such an important question, especially when scientific research must be impartial. Ken Buesseler of @whoi.edu will provide insight into what is needed to answer the scientific questions for #OIF #mCDR research.

#COP30
The #OceanPavilion had no power today @cop30brazil.bsky.social, but the program continued. Panelists presented with laptop screens and then discussed the governance issues of #mCDR on the high-seas. #OIF research is regulated by the #LondonConvention & Protocol
@cafethorium.bsky.social @whoi.edu
πExOIS will kick-off its #COP30 activities with a panel event at the #OceanPavilion on Monday 10th, 15-16h discussing the Challenges for #mCDR in the High Seas

π Thank you to all who joined our event, The Oceans as a Climate Hero at #ClimateWeekNYC! Science must guide mCDR with safeguards, collaboration is key, and itβs time to scale responsible research. Learn more: oceaniron.org
Looking forward to starting our #ClimateWeek panel discussion at The Explorers Club
πAt #ClimateWeekNYC our panel event "The Oceans as a Climate Hero" will dive into ocean iron fertilization for #mCDR exploring the science and safeguards of responsible research, as well as how philanthropy and investment can support this work

π The ExOIS consortium is committed to applying the most rigorous and independent science to evaluating ocean iron fertilization as a method of mCDR. The community needs high-quality data aimed at reducing uncertainty on these types of biotic changes.
π During #UNOC3, ExOIS convened a panel of experts to discuss the topic of environmental and ecological monitoring, reporting and verification (eMRV) for marine CDR. This discussion is just beginning and needs to be front and centre as the mCDR community moves forward.
π This #UNOC3 off-site side event is happening today, 3:30pm local time near Port Lympia in Nice. See original post for details.
π
π ExOIS is convening an off-site side event at #UNOC3 to discuss environmental and ecological #MRV to build trust and confidence in #mCDR research.
Appetisers and a drink provided.

At #OOSC in Nice this week & am constantly hearing people say there is a global moratorium on #mCDR (or some specific approach like ocean fertilization). I heard the same last week at the Liege colloquium. Itβs simply wrong. π§΅
πCome and see the ExOIS poster (P136) at 18-20h today in La Baleine to learn more about the research we need to do to on #OIF for #mCDR
πThe ExOIS program office has an opening for a short-term position to help with the writing of an application for a permit for ocean iron fertilization #OIF field research in the high seas

Please can you add ExOIS as a contributor to the oceanography feed. Kept putting the π to have our posts show here, but maybe you need to add us as well?
