Just got word that now at least 3000 people have been killed in the crackdown on the ongoing pro-democracy protests in #Iran. Internet is still down in the country. #humanRights
Being entirely incapable of NOT dancing melodramatically like the life of a year 9 drama kid in the 90s depended on it everytime Madonna's "Like a Prayer" or Bon Jovi "Blaze of Glory" comes on gets awkward when sitting on a full flight and both are on my playlist. My poor seat neighbours, though. 🤣
That tracks 🤣🤣
Too kind, Holly (but "irregular extradition" also made me laugh too, all good 🤣🤣)
P.s. for context, I did not choose the title and didn't see it until up. At this point, I haven't asked for it to be changed because it promps a useful conversation. I may yet, though.
The HCA found a deportation to be a "disguised extradition", which I suppose is an irregular extradition of sorts (in the same vein as irregular migration). However, in the case of Maduro, there was no extradition; only, as I explain in the piece, an unlawful assertion of enforcement jurisdiction.
Weasal words, for sure!
Does bringing a defendant before a court by irregular means bar prosecution? In Australia, probably. In the US, probably not. N.b. This was not an extradition.

Absolutely gutting. And without genuinely meaningful action on climate, events like these will become more common and more intense. One can only hope these communities are being well-supported. facebook.com/share/v/1D5ghk…

Grateful to have the opportunity to join this academic embed program in a joint military exercise in the Philippines. I learned a lot. I'll likely follow this short reflection piece with a deep dive on legal issues in extraterritorial military exercises. www.lowyinstitute.org/the-interpre...
Talking about national security doesn’t mean donning a tie and using fancy jargon.
Nope! We're just regular Aussies (mostly) who want to hear from you.
Quick thought? Submit it.
Manifesto? Submit that too!
Your 50 words are just as welcome as your 5000.

What does Australia's national security mean to you? Still time for the public to make a submission. We're genuinely interested in what you think.

Ready to go for the #ICJ's announcement on the PMs request in #Sudan v #UAE #Genocide Convention case. I am pretty sure the ICJ will decide the case cannot go ahead because of UAE's reservation to Art.IX of the #GenCon. #intlaw
I waited my whole life for this moment on the weekend! A vegetarian democracy sausage!
That was a classy speech from Dutton and I love that we get to do elections peacefully in this country. It ain't like that everywhere and we should never take it for granted.
