It’s all just become part strategic, I guess that’s why I find it fascinating.

I’m sure the Athletic did an article to this effect a couple of years ago. There are examples of teams winning the PL muddling through for certain positions but I think the conclusion was that the one position you can’t get away without having a top player, is DM.
And I expect many of the mins handed out in the opening 2 games of a season have been to established first team players rather than recent academy graduates. We are in a transitional moment where we no longer have the likes of Rash and McT to carry those mins.
Whilst Kobbie should have appeared in both games so far, we don’t want to descend into a situation where we are giving places in the squad or minutes simply to honour a tradition. Academy players must earn it or the record becomes a bit meaningless.
