Needless to say, my mom said no. The first year was rough. I wasn't old enough to drive; my mom worked & couldn't drive me; I was far enough out of district that none of my classmates could give me a ride. The minute I turned 16, my dad got me an ancient VW. Nowadays it'd be impounded, I'm sure.
This was before open enrollment in public schools. Phoenix had just redrawn their HS boundaries. I was a junior, and the school I was assigned to had just opened. They had a full first-year class. I would have been the ONLY junior, and all of my classes would have been independent study.
When I was a senior in HS I drove a car owned & registered to my dad, who lived in a different state. I was pulled over and forced to show documentation of residency at least once a week.
The kicker? I was already paying out-of-district tuition. Verifying my address was a waste of time & resources.

We don’t go to concerts anymore in part because parking is so expensive, disabled parking isn’t guaranteed, and rideshares with a (folding) wheelchair are a nightmare (expensive & we’ve been denied service enough that it’s just not reliable if there’s a time factor)
