Essentially pit the Ford's developer cronies in the Portlands against Ford and the airport. And make it so expensive for the province to expropriate the Portlands at that density that the airport expansion project is effectively DOA.

How quickly can the city approve a bunch of 80-story towers in the Portlands? bsky.app/profile/city...
This is an idea. The City of Toronto and council @mayoroliviachow.ca should approve a bunch of 80+ story towers in Portlands, directly in the flight path of the airport and essentially force the Ford gov't to expropriate all of Portlands at extreme inflated prices if he wants his expansion.

My @thestar.com column: For 15 years, Doug Ford has had an obsession with Torontoβs waterfront, hyping up half-baked ideas. The latest? A busier airport and a mega convention centre.
But the waterfront has never needed Ford's ideasβand will be worse because of them.

Iβm tired of Doug Ford playing with Toronto as if it were a game of SimCity 3000.

My latest for @thestar.com. Increasing surveillance and extending police powers doesnβt solve homelessness or drug use on transit β it merely opens up the broader public to arbitrary punishment, including the potential for jail time and $10,000 fines. www.thestar.com/opinion/cont...

"Those jets are coming in there, one way or another"??
That sounds like Trump.
How do you even begin to recover from a disaster like this? How do you clean up even after the acute phase is over? This is horrific.

Skylight Social was able to do it as a TikTok alternative built on top the AT protocol. Gander Social could have done the same by offering an easy way migrate accounts over to their hosting.
Cross-posting isn't the same as being able to see and interact with all post on both sides and being able to migrate accounts from here to there and back without losing any connections or posts. Should have been there from day one.
Frankly, a Canadian hosted version of Bluesky, built on the AT Protocol with interoperability with here and Mastodon and a switch to filter for Canadian specific news and content is all we need. Another closed social network is doomed.
No. I sign up to the mailing list months ago and still don't have access. The fact that it is so slow to rollout, lacking of any transparency and incompatible with existing platforms and standards like Bluesky or Mastodon doesn't bode well.
"Think about that for a moment. The US is now trusted so little in Asia that the president of a sovereign nation believes his capital cityβs harbor will be seen as too risky a location for an unarmed support ship." www.bloomberg.com/opinion/arti...
The awkward truth dogging USMCA talks: 'They just hate Canada.'
The EU is getting closer to Canada. Natural we join. π€ Then we can extend to Japan.
Guys, I canβt do another one. I will retire to run a bar in Malta if this happens.

Chart showing in many countries, people see their fellow citizens as morally good.
We asked people around the world to rate the morality and ethics of others in their country.
The U.S. is the only place we surveyed where more adults describe the morality and ethics of others living in the country as bad than good. See our full morality report here: www.pewresearch.org/...
Screenshot of an article from the Australian Financial Review. The headline reads: IFM Investors wants to pump $10b into Canada.
These investments will help create thousands of high-paying careers for Canadian workers and unlock important new opportunities for our businesses.
Carney's answer is nuanced + thoughtful. He makes a clear distinction b/w defending allies + offensive actions. Meanwhile Avi Lewis's absolutist position would mean we abandon our NATO allies even if they asked us to defend them.
A friend points out: βDoug Ford has long been obsessed with Chicago. The largest convention Center in North America is a lakeside convention Center south of downtown. So similar to Ex.β
The ideas arenβt unique or original. Much like his call to turn Niagara Falls into Vegas.
Derivative.
In the continuing saga of the Canadian media death spiral. We have reached the malicious tabloid trash phase. Intentional mischaraterisations and just pure stupidity. #cdnmediafail #cdnpoli
Mark Carney is not saying Canada will join this illegal war of choice, only that we will respond to calls for aid in defence of our allies if asked.
Stop spreading misinformation and stop panicking, the lot of you.
