Shore up that defense (personnel and scheme), solidify the net, get the young guns that are in the pipeline to develop and jump up into the league, and this team will be contending before you know it. If they can make the playoffs for a second consecutive season I’d consider that a success.

Well said, questionable player usage (including the shootout) and a lack of defense is killing this team along with softies in net… That kind of a loss starts at the top and I’d love to see MSL take the initiative to fix it. #GoHabsGo

Spot on, that loss had as much to do with the horrendous defense as it did a lack of goaltending. In fact, Monty made plenty of key saves to keep them in it. Not to mention, stop skating the puck all the way into the goalie during the shootouts. The team needed to be better overall to win that game.

The combination of defense and goaltending, or lack of, is a real problem for this squad. Monty might give up some softies, but he also kept them in the game with a ridiculous amount of key saves, only for the defense and turnovers to kill them. Fix one, fix the other. #GoHabsGo

That’s why it’s a double edged sword right now, the goalies can make plenty of elite or key saves as fans like to call them, but they’re also hung out to dry far too often to stay confident, be a true contender, and/or keep the defense confident… 35 and 75 would be solid (backups) with real defense.

💯 That’s why I can more easily overlook Monty’s lack of quality play than some folks, he’s let in some softies and struggled this season, but he’s also made some phenomenal saves all the same. The lack of quality personnel and defensive schemes is as much of an issue as the goaltending to be blunt.

Couldn’t agree more. And I’m open to all angles right now, because I’m seeing problems with the personnel, scheme, and goaltending. Given how many big time saves Monty made tonight, I simply can’t solely blame a loss on him for the ugly ones... This is a total team issue that starts at the top.

😒 If you need any proof of what I’m saying, go ahead and see goal number four. Horrible defense, by multiple players, leaving the goalie out to dry. But make the key safe, he’s already made countless key saves tonight. Improve the defense, then worry about the goalies, until then… Oof. #GoHabsGo
