Probably some people will disagree, but I can still waste evenings upon evenings by strarting a new UFO: Enemy Unknown run. Although I definitely recommend running it through OpenXCom nowadays :P

Finished Half-Life 1. Indeed a masterpiece of its time. I especially love the environments/level design and environmental storytelling.
While people point out that Deus Ex was released afterwards, I do have to point out that Dark Forces and Jedi Knight were released before!

I will have to retract my fairly positive opinion about Claude and agentic code tools in general.
While they do work fairly competently with the DRL mixed FreePascal/Lua codebase, against the much larger C++/Lua codebase of Jupiter Hell they're proving barely worthwhile...

Add in a very dark fantasy setting, more randomness in environments/missions than your average ARPG, and multiple characters within the same "run"...

So yeah the third idea is the ARPG one - here the permafailure design would have to be more loose as the single character vs game length would be painful. So we keep an in-world explanation of rebirth when attempting 2-3 hour max missions. Death wipes new loot and a part of the new XP.

It's the classic Necromunda campaign issue. Failure leads to harder time playing which spirals. To play well this must balance the opposite - classic rubberbanding solution - after failure it should be a bit easier to claw back.

Yes, but the game is not designed for permadeath and is unnecessarily frustrating in many aspects. You can play any game permadeath, but most are less or more frustrating.
