Everyone - "Wow, that's like the definition of fascism, right here"
Informed commentators - "No this is not actually fascism, you see, because historical fascism of the 1930s and 1940s blah blah blah blah blah"

.@adamtooze.bsky.social on the singular character of the Israeli-imposed famine in Gaza:
Γ la pointe extrΓͺme de la sociΓ©tΓ© du spectacle, il y a le gΓ©nocide Γ Gaza, et aussi celles et ceux qui le regardent en bouffant du popcorn.
Elsewhere in the interview, Dr Maynard claimed Israeli soldiers are shooting civilians at aid points "almost like a game of target practice". The IDF said it "categorically rejected" claims of "intentional harm to civilians, particularly in the manner described". Dr Maynard claimed he has operated on boys as young as 11 who had been "shot at food distribution points" run by the US and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. "They had gone to get food for their starving families and they were shot," he said. "I operated on one 12-year-old boy who died on the operating table because his injuries were so severe."
A British surgeon returned from Gaza says Israeli soldiers were shooting at aid-seekers βalmost like a game of target practice".
He also said formula doctors had packed to bring with them was the only item confiscated by Israeli authorities before entry.
Formula.

The thing about all these fucking statements now from world leaders calling for the food to be let in to Gaza: you have the ability to impose sanctions on Israel and every second you spend talking instead of imposing them is a collaborationist lie.
I want to write some book reviews again soon. I find it a great way to sharpen my own arguments and keep me writing. But since I quit the fascist platform I find it hard to keep up with cool new titles.
Friends and foes: what should be on my radar this summer/fall ?
My book about the Situationist International is on summer sale for those of you who are looking for something to read on the 'beach beneath the streets'

Come say hi and buy the book
'It's a Killing Field': IDF Soldiers Ordered to Shoot Deliberately at Unarmed Gazans Waiting for Humanitarian Aid IDF officers and soldiers told Haaretz they were ordered to fire at unarmed crowds near food distribution sites in Gaza, even when no threat was present. Hundreds of Palestinians have been killed, prompting the military prosecution to call for a review into possible war crimes
IDF soldiers have now themselves admitted they have been ordered to murder aid-seekers in Gaza.
Truly an atrocity built on atrocity.

"we see a rift traversed by new diagonals, as kids in keffiyehs throw barricades in the path of ICE. To the rift corresponds also the swerve cutting across these divisions. Here, in the limits of the riot, we see its overcoming and its passage to revolution."

It seems only fitting that this piece by @polemologos.bsky.social - so influenced by Joshua Clover's work - has just been published in the b2o dossier on Finance & Fiction that Arne De Boever and I are editing:

New open access piece!
I trace how financialized capitalism seeps into our emotional lives via William Gibsonβs Pattern Recognition, a novel where Homo economicus meets burnout, uncertainty, and what I call βspeculative fatigueβ. Speculation isnβt just economicβitβs existential and affective.
