Image of the Year 2025 Winner - Astronomical Society of Edinburgh At our meeting on Friday 9 January, the winner of our annual competition, as voted for by our members, was announced. The prize went to Rob Parsons for his amazing solar image.

M33 taken 3.1.26 from Newtongrange. SeeStar50 83 mins of 10sec exposures. Bright full moon gave large gradient across the image. Used Siril, ceramic, DeNoise and Lightroom. Some 2.9m light years away and the third largest galaxy in the local group.

A splendid cold walk to Fiddlers Gill to see the fab but rusting Victorian #Braidwood Telescope! Once part of the now long-gone Lanark Observatory, its optics are safe at the Lanark Museum. Sadly I see no hope in restoring this beauty tho, that's been long-abandoned in this field ☹️ #histsci 🔭🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
