Appalling. The police commission approving this trip needs serious scrutiny as well. #yegcc

Posting about it is one thing. Doing it in the first place is another.
This should be a huge fucking wake-up call to every level of government playing footsie with fascists and their pals in βlaw enforcement.β
These people are by far the biggest threat to public safety - not protesters, not encampment dwellers, not people using drugs. Fascists.
Forced treatment doesnβt create recovery.
It creates resistance.
Iβve worked in the private recovery industry.
The clients who were forced into it didnβt recover.
They relapsed, they disappeared, and some died.
Support people. Donβt control them!
βAlberta model should be the Canadian modelβ: Barrie mayor praises Alberta on how provinces handle homelessness
Barrie Ontarioβs mayor is Alex Nuttall and he apparently likes seeing unhoused people lose their limbs to frostbite amputations, and other horrors.

Far too many ledes in this story, and itβs already in two parts. (One was even a CBC headline this morning.)
Please read & share - this one cost dozens of hours and $378 in FOIP fees!

i don't think edmonton should ever forget that the 2022 chinatown murders were a direct consequence of RCMP cops choosing to dump justin bone in the city in violation of a court order
City Councilβs priorities are completely out of whack. They canβt clean streets, canβt tow vehicles, and are making it harder for small businesses to survive, all while handing out millions of dollars to the billionaire owner of a hockey club. Absolutely shameful.
Ever wonder why police narratives dominate "public safety" discourse, when police funding has no correlation with actual safety?

A year ago, the Alberta government said it was building 2 drug jails for detainment and forced withdrawal of people who use drugs, in Calgary and Edmonton.
Turns out another was planned for Grande Prairie.
Any others? Seems likely.

Former chief coroner Lisa Lapointe recently criticized B.C.βs drug policies, saying the provinceβs approach to the ongoing #ToxicDrugCrisis is not evidence-based. @michellegamage.bsky.social reports. #bcpoli
This is great and all, but honestly lets just get cops out there with shovels. Then at least we'll be getting something of tangible value for the half billion a year they cost us.
This morning in Vancouver, Amber Bracken will take on the RCMP in a historic lawsuit brought by @thenarwhal.ca over her arrest while working in the field. @arnokopecky.bsky.social on why this lawsuit matters.
Among other things, the city needs to explain why this specific plane is privately owned when previous planes were owned by the city. Why did Edmonton tax payers buy a plane for private shareholders?
Take a quick moment to vote for Starlings Community in Calgary.
Thank you!

If you spend any time in Edmonton with the folks who live on its streets, you'll see how the elites have condemned them to horrific situations, including the obvious possibility of disease.

A conservative Alberta MP crossing the floor should tell you everything you need to know about the Carney, liberals and liberalism in general.
One of our (newly elected) City Council's first orders of business was to *unanimously* approve $1 million to expand access to day shelter space in Edmonton. ππ»
Here's our op-ed from last month on why this is so needed. edmontonjournal.com/opinion/colu...

Exactly. What a weak and depressing response.
I knew we were woefully unprepared for this moment but if the best weβve got is join the NDP and letting the government know teachers βare still here.β We are cooked.
Am I missing something or are the unions in Alberta too quiet today. What is the move, gang?
Cops arenβt workers. They organize as police, not as workers and they will be the first ones to enforce the will of this authoritarian government. Police associations are not labour unions.
Found this post interesting....
What's that word again for a person who says one thing, but acts in a totally opposite way???
Cuz this is a pretty interesting "view" from a major architect of FORCED Addictions care, and taking away trans-care autonomy and choice!
Who were the scrutineers at the poll(s) where the discrepancies happened? π§

I cannot imagine a city councillor being as connected to community, as engaged, as responsive as Rajah Maggay. I wish you luck, Nakota Isga, you could have had a real one.
Edmonton, thank you.
I'm excited to build a stronger Edmonton, together.
