Wonder how many people have died on roads he's designed. Personally, if i designed something that killed someone I'd probably have trouble sleeping at night.

If a structural engineer knowingly designed a building that would fall down and kill someone, they would at least lose their license. But if you are a traffic "engineer" its just business as usual.
I should note that he preferred driving for himself and did not understand why someone would prefer the walking. This was not just a quirky opinion.
I once had a back and forth with a notable rationalist blogger about how it's nicer to walk 1/2 mile in a downtown area to run errands than drive that distance between big box stores. He preferred the driving. That was pretty revealing and clarifying about some of his views.
There's been an uptick in reddit posts about the encampments recently. I wonder how much this response is prompted by that.
Husted may want to ask Trump the last time he bought anything at a grocery store.
And totally unwilling to consider the many solutions to this problem in use around the world. Guess if it's not in the US it's not real.
This is definitely a unique situation, but with so many long thin lots in the city, it will be great to see some clever solutions to providing access to multiple units on a lot like that. Been thinking about it for my own lot.
is it the same owner of both lots or are you saying Habitat bought just this lot with the long driveway? if they own both lots I'd hope they could put more than just a duplex + sfh.
I fantasize about this when I drive on the pot hole and tar lump covered streets of cville.
Seems like he's more of an engineer turned CEO/Founder who is now just doing VC: toni.org/about/ Resume is of someone who could get hired for this job without the VC part. His blog makes him seem like a pretty decent, normal guy.
The picture here has got to be 15 years old or more. Those trees are now so overgrown you can't even see the house from most angles.
I think the way to do it is to make it allowed by default for an owner for two adjacent lots to have zero setbacks/shared walls. It's a recipe for blowback if people start building to the property line against their neighbor's wishes. But if you are developing both lots it's not an issue.
Does look like top speed was correlated with race success in either year, but maybe slightly negatively correlated in 2026? I am doing this just by eye on these numbers and my recollection of race results so I could be totally wrong (and its just one race so far).
Have you seen any of the videos about the tricks speed runners have found to gain time in this game? They are still finding major tricks/glitches. People's dedication to finding the one pixel, that, when the game memory is just right, can teleport them 10 levels ahead is astounding.
yeah it seems to me that if the FD wants people to be safer in an apartment fire they should be pushing for more comprehensive sprinkler systems or improving their response time, not forcing extra stair cases.
Pretty confident that 90% of the time an e-bike is faster than a car moving around town. Only when the route uses 250/5th/29 is the car going to be faster. If you include the time it takes to park then walk to your destination, e-bike is probably faster 95%+ plus.
Data centers are to the Ashburn area like Hollywood is to LA.
Possibly, but there are tons of YouTube channels of creatives in NYC (Casey Neistat and the thousands of channels he inspired). I suspect some is expensive house but also that NYC is assumed to be urban so there is less pressure to push for change.
If its running on aux so much then its likely undersized, not commissioned properly, or needs service. It was cold this year, but not cold enough to make the heat pump unable to function normally.
Every year I tell my self I want to run all the streets in the city. Never happens. Maybe this is the year!
The US government would never encourage and fund exiles to invade Cuba and then not provide air support! Not the US government I know!
And there are so many other roads in the area where it’s impossible to cross legally. Stoney point, with lots and lots of new appts, stores and a park, is one and the speed limit is 45!
They should turn the west bound side to two ways and turn the east bound side into bus lane and bike lane. This would vastly simplify the dairy market intersection too.
A painted “lane” on the right side is just a gutter. It should never be considered a bike lane.
Cash for Clunkers was the car equivalent of tearing down usable cars and it has greatly hurt the used car market for the last 15 years. This car analogy is a great one.
That sounds terrible, what % of houses have they bought up? 20? 30?
VDOT, correct. Sometimes the distinctions on who is responsible for which roads escapes me. Seems unnecessarily complicated.
Thinking about the family that was hit on Stony Point last year. The county provides no ways to safely cross Stony Point. More people will die there until something changes.
You think that’s likely? I think SLU and Dayton would be good additions (in addition to the zags of course, but I won’t hold my breath)
