I hate to think what our power bills are going to be; we have to have air con on day and night, which is itself a vicious cycle as to heat waves. The future is not pretty.

This freaking heatwave. I can't remember the last day not in the late 30s. Last night, I walked home at 10 PM and it was still 30 degrees. In the mornings, the house is hot and stale, and the temperature is climbing. One day of reprieve tomorrow.

A language of space and ruin: The elegiac lyric essay and the image of the corpse | Published in TEXT By Dani Netherclift. I argue that the elegiac lyric essay form allows for an aggregation of images of mourning and thus creates a space for representation of the image of the corpse.

The new special edition of text journal is up, edited by David McCooey and Briohny Doyle. I have a piece in there, and am looking forward to reading the other work within textjournal.scholasticahq.com/article/1554...

Finishing the book MS I've been working on for 2 years was an easy enough task. Encapsulating it in a 500-word synopsis seems like the harder thing.

41 where I am, too, and not dropping below 38 degrees for 8 days, but how do you get through a forecast like Mildura's? Swan Hill is probably similar.

I remember walking down a street in Elwood that week of heatwave before Black Saturday, and a little ringtail possum fell out of a tree at my feet.

That's the first time I've had to read ICE agents described as 'brave'. So brave, they don't even show their faces.

Ugh, I thought Mansfield was bad. Hang in there. Let's hope no fires.

All our yesterdays (all our tomorrows are coming) I read a comment from someone yesterday, talking about these in-between days as days between years, which, I think you will agree, is a beautiful way of thinking.

Happy NY 2026. I woke up this morning and wrote a Substack open.substack.com/pub/danineth...

I saw someone on here extolling the charms of the LibGen library (which steals books and academic papers globally) and pointed out it wasn't a good place. She said she believes knowledge is for everyone. As if real, ethical libraries didn't exist.
