Parents and patients are becoming drug developers. Non-profit biotech models are now a reality. There is a world of innovation happening just down the hall from those exclusively focused on expecting pharma and biotech to solve it all.
Patients and others will be left to fill in the gaps on delivering science for those being left behind.
Pharma and biotech will deliver on science for areas considered commercially viable. The model is built to deliver for shareholders and we cannot expect conventional pharma to meet the needs of all patients.
Despite post-JPM enthusiasm, there remains no clear industry-driven model to develop and deliver treatment options for those with the most rare of conditions.
