Or perhaps the cost of maintaining aging infrastructure is expensive. Poles, pits, lines, substations aren't cheap.

Me having solar doesn't reduce the cost of replacing infrastructure.

Plus: Financial Review removes β€˜incorrect’ opinion piece * Follow our Australia news live blog for latest updates * Get our breaking news email, free app or daily news podcast While readers on the Gold Coast apparently find Labor MP Tony Burke an acceptable face, just an hour north, in Brisbane, the home affairs minister is a turn-off. How else to explain the different choices made by two of News Corp Australia’s Queensland newspaper editors on Tuesday? The Gold Coast Bulletin editor, Tyla Harrington, published a front-page headline β€œAussie, Aussie, Aussie” with a picture of the five members of the Iranian women’s football team with Burke, who had just granted them humanitarian visas. Not going to lie, they had me in the 1st half.

It should be illegal, with statutory fines in the $10,000+ range, for manipulated images to be used in realestate.

Colour correction is fine.

This howerver is blatant fraud.

$10,000 per photo.

I was having trouble understanding my partner. I felt it was more their pronunciation than my hearing, but I went and got a hearing test anyway.

Turns out with the exception of 2.0k and 3.0k (15dB) I can hear frequencies down to 5dB.

However 4.0k is 5db and 0db.

I can not use this info can I. :-)

Probably. However it is regulated somewhat heavily.

That said, my monthly power bill is about AUD$80, of which about $35 is simply connection fees, not consumption fees.

I feel pretty smug about that too.

Great.

Pass.

That'd be VED yeah?

"Road tax" having been abolshed approximately 90 years ago?

VED being an excise. Excises are used to discourage undesriable consumption, e.g. tobacco, gambling, alcohol?

11.03.2026 02:00 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Hehe. #roadtax

Can you show me your receipt for "road tax"?

Also, can you explain the process for refunds when I drive my Nissan X-Trail somewhere, pull the bike out and start riding?

Does a government man meet me there with a cash refund?

Do I have to pay it again when I get back in my car?

Sooo, apparently when using a 24 hour Blood Pressure Monitor, I'm not allowed to shower?

Yikes.

For other people that is.

Roads more choked than the centre isle of an ALDI on Saturday morning.

That was horrid.

* I am not a statistician, but I did see the school bike shed go from being full 15 minw before bell time to being 10-15% full, and only in about 2 years.

Primary school, <150 kids, 50+ bikes in and around the bike shed ('85-91)
High school, 1,600+ students, less than 20 bikes in the shed ('92-99)

There is one fella who drives a V8 Commodore here. Good bloke so I wont give him a hard time. It is well kept, I'll give him that.

No fluffy dice though, which is a red flag :-)

He does prefer to work from home as much as possible though, hehe.

Oooaah. They look pretty. Love that there is no bulky awkward external battery either.

Great to see a chain guard on it. Keeps pants and skirts clean. Some mudguards and it could be an all-weather commuting weapon :-)

Ride on!

I wish more had the same opportunity as I do.

However it's a brave person who cycles on a road in Melbourne. Drivers are dripping in entitlement and rarely face consequences for killing, or worse maiming someone.

10.03.2026 19:53 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Frustratingly I live in a mandatory helmet law area. The reduction in cycling participation from this (along with drivers basically having immunity) is massive.

At population scales, the reduction in head trauma doesn't outweigh the increase in obesity related health outcomes. 🀬

As for why petrol prices went up in Australia who well and truly has enough reserves of Dino juice to be independent but politicians are too spineless to keep the billionaires under control? Combined with two right wing fascist news media organisations owned by Murdoch or an ex Liberal treasurer...

With respect, I want everyone to be in a position to choose.

Some of my younger co-workers are forced to purchase and pay to maintain a car. The cost of renting forces them into areas far away from jobs and those places don't have trains and the busses are terrible.
