For movies of old shows, I will add some US classics: Starsky & Hutch, Charlie's Angels, & The Fugitive. All series I used to enjoy watching with my folks. In the case of Charlie's Angels I found the movie insulting. All three girls being expert kickboxers running up walls & doing backflips etc. 🤣

Van Der Valk is an interesting case as it was already revived twice with Barry Foster, first by Euston Films in 1977 and again in the early 90s in a sort of 'Inspector Morse 2 hour' format. Even so, the best stories were the original 1972-73 Thames run.
All of those ... in less cult vein the 'Upstairs, Downstairs' revival was underwhelming ... might also add the attempts at movie revivals of old series long after the event ... 'The Saint', 'The Avengers' and 'The Sweeney' ... oh and that recent C5 'Play for Today' was nothing like the original

I'd agree with all those sentiments. There was maybe a sentiment to complete agreed commitments to ABC -TV in required timescales and the knowledge that further commissions were unlikely at best. Those episodes were held back a long time before ITV broadcast.
Interesting. S1 was of course the longest, the earliest tales being the most varied in content/style as Brian was no doubt 'testing the waters', most finding favour it seems. Re S6, yes there was experimentation and low-key, but also some repetition - considered poor in comparison to earlier eps?

Yes, 'Kill Two Birds' is probably the most atypical Thriller after 'K is for Killing' (both in tone more than story content) and veering dramatically from the 'norms' of any programme can alienate the regular viewer or fan.
The 'supernaturals' prove interesting overall ... at 10,18,19,22,23,28,29 and 40 ... so only one top-10 (might expect 'Stairs' to be higher?) - but also only one bottom-10, the rest 'middling', clustered between 18 and 29. Seems to vindicate Brian Clemens' decision to emphasise other story types.
I'd say most of the top 10, maybe even top 15 coincide with the 'fans favourites' (if that's how we describe ourselves!) ... and the bottom 10 a similar situation - although personally I'd have 'Death to Sister Mary' far far higher. It's all very subjective of course and varies from time to time
The guy at Forgotten British TV is doing an excellent job at the upscaling. I'm advising - to some extent, hence the original UK version of 'If It's a Man' getting the upscale treatment!
