5 years since you wrote us a puzzle @catrionaagg.bsky.social π
Today I am in lovely London at @imperialcollegeldn.bsky.social for the second Year 13 Further mA*ths masterclass. Today I get to talk about problem solving and ask "what is X anyway?"

Happy #worldbookday to an incredibly niche group of people, specifically @mscroggs.co.uk

After a v tricky 2025 I went back to the gym in December. I have been consistently going 4 times a week to PT & today I braved a run. I started running after my daughter was born in 2010 and loved it. But the last few years the weight has piled on and the knees can't take it. Today I did this π
Car insurance feels like one massive fraud at the moment.
We are now being charged an extra £300 (on an already ££££££ policy for a 17 year old) because the "purchase date" they asked for was apparently not the purchase date.
Exhausted with fighting this stuff!

My son did. They only go in to college when they have an exam and the rest they can study at home or college or go to some optional/not optional study sessions.
Yes it is! Not entirely sure on timings. Probably lunchtime and results won't be till about 9pm. But my kids will probably be on late afternoon/early evening!
Lovely number 2 was in a Winter Guard competition today and his team WON which was fabulous! His amazing sister also competed in a different class and came 4th. I am so proud of them both π
Let's talk about the "God Equation"
New video now live!

We are doing Tokyo, Takayama, Kyoto and Osaka I think. Just so many exciting options!
Sounds awesome. I have two weeks there and so far about 2 years worth of things I want to do!
We are going to Japan as a family this year (eldest graduates, middle does A levels, youngest does GCSEs this summer) and today has been a full on planning day. I am getting SUPER excited! π―π΅π―πΎ
With @ox.ac.uk and @cam.ac.uk Maths courses now requiring TMUA for 2027 entry onwards it seemed a good time to remind you of the @meimaths.bsky.social TMUA On Demand course. Free for students from state-funded schools & colleges. Perfect to recommend to Year 12 students π

Portrait of Mikaela Iacobelli, an associate professor, smiling at the camera. She has shoulder-length light brown hair and is wearing small stud earrings and a navy blue top. The background behind her is a soft light blue. The overall graphic features a slate-blue backdrop with the βHMS β Her Maths Storyβ logo centered at the top. Her headshot is framed in the middle, and below it, on a torn-paper style white overlay, her name βMikaela Iacobelliβ appears in large black text, with βAssociate Professorβ written underneath in smaller capital letters.
β(...) what I like most about mathematics: there is room for many different trajectories, as long as you keep following questions that genuinely interest you.β - Mikaela Iacobelli

I have been training up at the gym π
Absolutely the same. That single Mum NQT year was absolutely something else but this year my baby is 25 and he makes the world a better place β€οΈ
I feel like it was a struggle and a cheat code. I couldn't not do my absolute best when every minute I was in lectures or studying was time away from my boy. I feel incredibly lucky to have him inspire me to be better but also my goodness degrees/PGCEs are hard when juggling children as well!
A 20 month old little boy is wearing a mortar board with his mum is in graduation robes
This one time I had a baby at uni. Today he got his last exam results at uni (he has a 60 credit dissertation to go) and they included 99% in Quantum Computing! I can't wait to recreate this photo at his graduation in July. How wonderful life is with him in the world π

Particularly useful with the recent changes in Oxford and Cambridge requirements and also discusses lower tariff universities as mentioned in @mathsjem.bsky.social's blog this week.
