ssh is an obscure but widely-deployed command. It stands for Secure Snake Home and was made in the 90s to securely play snake online

I made a massively multiplayer backend for it with support for thousands of concurrent snake players

ssh snakes.run to join!

finally getting around to throwing it all together. experimenting with some shaders. i like how this looks, but it feels a little too lethal company inspired.

it really is a disappointment. sonic has such neat character design, and the idea of blazing through these sprawling levels seems so fun.

but then i always found the level design so... meh? why am i punished for trying to have fun?

yeah it's one of my favorite games of all time, i remember following it's development like, 7 years ago. there are so many small details, it's obvious the developers had a lot of passion!

A screenshot of a five-player board game called "Ozghard Chess" that features five color-coded sets of pieces, with only the green Central set having a king. This Central set also lacks a queen and pawns, but it has double the other pieces. An blue queen has just taken a red pawn. It's Central's move.

This game is based on The Lasting Lands by Cliff Jones Jr.

Gameplay is very similar to standard chess, where the aim of each player is to capture an opponent’s king. In Ozghard, however, there is only a single Central king. So while the Central player attempts to keep the king alive to the end, all other players compete to see who can be the first to capture the king.

You can also play with no kings at all by disabling the Central player in Settings. In this case, your goal is to capture all your opponents’ pieces.

Pieces move by the same rules as in standard chess (indicated by highlighting potential moves when you select a piece), and captured pieces are worth the same point values:

- pawn (β™™) = 1
- knight (β™˜) = 3
- bishop (β™—) = 3
- rook (β™–) = 5
- queen (β™•) = 9
- king (β™”) = 100

When starting a new game, one of the five players is selected at random to move first. This can either be a human player, or if you’d like the selected color to be played by the computer, click β€œComputer Turn” on their move.

Unlike in standard chess, you may also choose β€œPass Turn” anytime you’d like. This means that there is no checkmate or stalemate to end the game. If the king is unable to move, they simply pass and wait to be captured. If all five players pass in a row, the game ends in a draw.

Ozghard strips away most of the special rules of standard chess. Castling is not possible, for example. And although pawns move in the same basic way, there is no en passant rule, and promotion is always to queen. There are also no limits on the number or repetition of moves.

You can save the exact state of your current game to your system clipboard using the up-arrow β€œProgress” button...

All right, folks, I think I'm about ready to release this one. I've decided to make games that are completely free and just hope people donate here and there. Let me know what you think!

this will be one of the plants in the ashen wastes. its fruits can be thrown as an incendiary grenade, or used to grow more prickleburn cactus!
