Today in my "small thing that makes my game feel like a game" file: I've changed my inventory item look at commands to show a close-up of the item in a dedicated room. Coincidentally, this also fixes a major text placement bug I was fighting with, too! #GameDev #IndieDev #SoloDev
kill the imposter syndrome in you head because not only is there someone out there doing it worse than you, they're also using chat gpt to do it
Anyways.
A quote from John Gruber at Daring Fireball. It reads: “It was, I am reliably informed by Apple product marketing folks, a significant engineering achievement to get a second USB port at all on the MacBook Neo while basing it on the A18 Pro SoC. And while the ports aren’t labeled, if you plug an external display into the “wrong” port, you’ll get an on-screen notification suggesting you plug it into the other port.” Excerpt From “MacBook Neo will warn you if you plug a display into the wrong USB-C port” 9to5Mac https://apple.news/Ald9_zOhKR_eB4U6x292fbg This material may be protected by copyright.
I am simultaneously amused and baffled at this quote - I cannot wait for the memes to begin! #MacbookNeo
I'm doing some refinement work on the first two areas of my proof of concept thanks to feedback from playtesters. More signposting, clearer puzzles, the works. Since I'm doing some polish work, I'm also toying with the idea of splash screens for inventory items too! #IndieDev #SoloDev #GameDev
it's really weird to me that retroarch, a program with like the worst UI known to man is the only option for emulating quite a few consoles on android, a userbase not generally known for their tech savvy.
is this why the youths are scared of emulation. i swear most are not this annoying, kids.

So, you know when all of a sudden life gives you twenty different side-quests to tackle all at once? Yep, that just happened to me! Probably going to be quiet for the next little while, but I’ll be back!
video games are so funny.
it's fucked up that being called "Dr." is locked behind getting a degree. not a reasonable goal for most players, bordering on being paid DLC. it being one of the few non-binary honorific options also seems very restrictive.
Lines of game code that tell the player character to recite lyrics, intended to be sung to the tune of "That's Amore." Assembled, the lyrics read: "When... the... glass hits your eye, and your blood runs like wine, that's-a-mourning! When the men hit the deck, and that one guy gets wrecked, that's-a-mourning!"
You ever just have a bit too much fun writing comic relief lines in a surreal horror game?

The Steam Machine has been delayed because stupid little babies can't stop using AI to write their emails:

Working on the final major puzzle for my game now. Code-wise, it's very similar to the first one, but I'm hoping to teach the player that this game relies on not just in-world clues but also RE-Style documents for solutions!

it's a sad casualty of a very locked down controller ecosystem (among other things) that games basically don't come with goofy peripherals anymore to support unique experiences
not all of them were good but there's no ps5 controller that has a spinner on it so clearly something is wrong
Screw it, new logo for the final proof of concept build.

I don't really feel great. Still figuring out IRL stuff, plus of course my Windows PC decided to just break my Remote Desktop connection, and I only got around to fixing it today.
Creating ain't easy...
I feel like DOOM (1993) and Street Fighter 2 (1991) have to be among the canonical correct answers to this question, both being early entries for the types of game they even are and yet still among the best of that type.
The creative process 🖌✨
A colored sketch of a fictional error screen. On a bright beige background, a pan is seen flipping what appears to be a pancake-colored disc. In uppercase text below the pictographic, it reads: "Game Data is recorded on the other side of this disc."
Full disclosure, things aren't going well for me in the real world ATM. I've only now been sitting down working on adding dialogue to the game.
I did manage to freehand a doodle without references or rotoscoping though! Bonus points if you get what this is referencing. #IndieDev #SoloDev #GameDev
Dear #ScreenshotSaturday (Technically Sunday for me already, but why not?):
With any luck, this will be the last 3D room I'll have to model for my proof of concept... a shame, because I really feel like I'm finally in my element with this app!

Project Update: got all the rooms for loop 3’s area implemented - now it’s time to add dialogues, actual gameplay, a minigame and all the cutscene goodies! This is probably the most important part of this proof of concept, so I’m going to lock-in and focus! #IndieDev #SoloDev #GameDev
It's honestly the little things that really starts to tie together the presentation. Believe it or not, all I did here was add a very basic background animation to the title screen, and it just makes everything blend better.

Not quite there yet, especially since I’m having to resort to a streamed music track output for my mod file ATM, but at least people can now enter passwords to carry over progress, AND get a taste of the new theming for the menu!

Abe: Isn't he going to screw up at a crucial moment again?
Arino: Abe, I can't say that won't happen.
To give you an idea of how much I'm revamping this, I'm learning how to use a MOD Tracker to port the menu's theme! Now I've just gotta bug the AGS devs about their broken looping MOD file support... #AdventureGameStudio #GameDev #IndieDev #SoloDev

A screenshot from a work-in-progress version of Sequence Break. In it, we see the main menu as it was in previous builds of the game. This time, however, the "Extras" Button second-closest to the bottom-left of the screen is greyed out, and its description text has been changed to read "CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS." In a bright red font.
You ever wake up one morning and decide "You know what? Let's remake this entire mechanic because I'm unhappy with it as-is!"
Um... Yep. Inspiration struck to make me re-theme the menus and refactor the unlock system for this from scratch. Here we go again! #IndieDev #SoloDev #GameDev
Here's the footage I captured while testing the game on my Deck (using a Keyboard and Mouse) - This is so much smoother than the setup I had to use before, that I'm debating switching to a build and test workflow just so I have a responsive test environment! #IndieDev #SoloDev #GameDev
You know, I didn't realize the Steam Deck could work as a DevKit. In this economy, that's probably the best value I've ever gotten out of my Deck (and considering all the games I played on it, that's a lot!), but it makes even testing my Adventure game so much better, it's not even funny!
I'm back on my developer nonsense for the new year now, and finally starting to work on the final part of the first chapter of the game. All I added so far was a small room for a cutscene and.... holy crap, I think I need to start adding in-game animations now!
