🧵Shock Doctrine is a social control strategy that uses recurrent shocks to make people feel overwhelmed & easier to conquer. To inflict suffering, push us into submission, or prompt us to rise up against our oppression in a way the fascist regime can use as an excuse to institute martial law.

What a thing, this moment of personal collection before what's coming. I'm sitting here with deep gratitude for the wisdom others have gifted forward. I'm thinking of those who didn't have the privilege of knowing in advance, much less the opportunity to prepare in any capacity.

And so do we.

This reminder found me when it was sorely needed, thank you.

May this last week of 2024 bring us all precisely what we need. Whatever that looks like.

Our first moments of discretionary time need not involve traditional rest. Clearing sacred ground can be physical, or emotional, or spiritual.

It strikes me that as well-meaning folk urge us to rest during these deep winter holidays, what recuperates us need not involve stillness.

Lost my mom 3 years ago. This morning I moved six saved voice messages from my phone to my laptop. I've listened to one of them last year. She sent me signs that it was time to free up the space on my phone for Christmas morning pictures & videos of my children.

I have no logical rationale for this, but I feel that warm colors work better near the ground / bushes / entryways & cool work better up high along rooftops / gutters / trees. Also they may absolutely be mixed, brings a lovely complexity.

My family's spending would incorrectly support the assumption that we're confident in good times ahead while it's in fact the very opposite.

Stocking up on unsexy things like fluoride toothpaste, plan B, masks, charging cords, replacement laptop for the one about to go, shelf-stable fruits & veg, kids' shoes in the next sizes, etc.

Our Christmas gift spending is down because our family prep spending is up in anticipation of post-inaugural chaos.

This anticipatory everything is changing me, and I'm inclined to let it. My alchemized self is gonna find the ways forward that are almost in view.
